Kundapur, Jan 13: A third bike became victim in the attempt to create communal violence at Gangolli. However, police have successfully arrested the accused within hours of the incident.
Gururaj, resident of Daka Hithlu, Gangolli is the arrested person. It is learnt that he has confessed to the crime.
At 1 am on Saturday, January 13, a Honda Activa scooter that was parked in front of the house of Nayeem, resident of Takiya Maula, Gangolli was on fire suddenly. People of this locality were alert as there have been two incidents of bike torching in this area in the preceding week. A local noticed Gururaj running away from the spot after setting fire to the scooter.
The alert locals immediately informed the incident to the police. Subbanna, in-charge police sub-inspector and personnel of Gangolli police station acted swiftly and knocked on the door of Gururaj Kharvi's home. Gururaj, who was sleeping peacefully, after setting fire to the scooter tried to escape on seeing the police. However, the police overpowered and arrested him.
Gururaj has confessed to the act on the spot and he has been taken into custody.
It has to be assessed through investigation whether Gururaj has any role in the previous two incidents of bike torching in the same locality. Investigation will also reveal if any other persons instigated him to do this act.
