Puttur, Jan 3: Vishwa Hindu Parishad Dakshina Kannada district president, Jagadish Shenava, announced that the Hindu organizations will give a call for district bandh on January 7 if Abdul Khader, station house officer of the rural police station here and staff of the station, Chandra, Karunakar and Suresh are not suspended by then.
He was addressing the Hindu awareness meeting organized in the field attached to Lord Venkataramana temple here on Tuesday January 2, for urging the concerned to meet certain demands.
"We are facing a situation in which Hindus have come together to fight against Khader. Police personnel of rural station here have been functioning as if they want to suppress Hindu activists. They keep doing things like unnecessarily arresting activists of Hindu organizations, torturing them, and registering false cases, all of which we condemn. This meeting has been held to educate people about the things police personnel have been doing and with a view to ensure that such things do not recur in future. If the government and police department fail to meet our demands, our response in the coming days will be too unexpected for the government and the department," he warned.
State convener of Hindu Jagran Vedike, Satyajit Suratkal, speaking on the occasion, reminded the people that recently, minister, Ramanath Rai, had announced that he got elected from Bantwal constituency six times with the grace of Allah and support of minority voters. "By saying so, Rai has ditched the Hindus who voted for him. His facade of secularism has been ripped off. The superintendent of police should advice police staff to behave with restraint when dealing with people. Otherwise,Hindu activists will have to teach them a lesson," he added.
Hindu activists from various places like Kabaka, Kodimbady and Darbe came in protest processions to the venue of the meeting, duly raising slogans against the station house officer and other officials of the rural police station here.
Hindu Jagran Vedike leader, Radhakrishna Adyantaya, Bajrang Dal convener, Sharan Pumpwell, Hindu leaders, Arunkumar Puttila, Jitendra Kottary, Capt Brijesh Chowta, and BJP district president, Sanjeeva Matandoor, were present.
Jagadish Acharya rendered prayers. Hindu Janajagruti Samiti convener, Chanila Thimmappa Shetty, welcomed the gathering. Bajrang Dal leader, Muralikrishna Hasantadka, proposed vote of thanks.
