Mangaluru, Dec 11: The Carmelites, celebrated ‘Carmel Day 2017’ on December 9 at St Joseph’s Monastery, Carmel Hill.
The Chief Guest of the event was Fr Richard Coelho, director of Fr Muller’s Institutions. In his speech, he praised the Carmelites for their involvement in the diocese, especially admiring their spiritual work at Infant Jesus Shrine, Carmel Hill. He told the audience that their presence showed the good work done by the Carmelites and the collaboration provided by the faithful. He ended his message by wishing a peaceful Christmas and New Year 2018.
Other guests of honour were Fr. Pius James D’Souza, Episcopal vicar for religious, Mangalore diocese and first councillor of the Carmelites of Karnataka Goa province and Fr Wilfred Rodrigues, superior of St Joseph’s Monastery.
Fr Wilfred Rodrigues welcomed the gathering, Fr Prakash D Cunha compered the event and Fr Liguory rendered the vote of thanks.
The event meant to showcase the talents of the Carmelites, began with a musical chorus in Konkani. The highlight of the evening was the premiere show of the socio-religious drama ‘Don Shingam’, written by Fr Jocy Siddakatte, directed by Clanwin Fernandes and acted out by the Carmelite brothers at Carmel hill. A shadow act on the theme ‘Blue Whale’ was also performed by the brothers through the direction of Thomas. The Carmel choir entertained the thousand plus crowd with an enthralling dance, and the Carmelite postulants did short comedy acts. Clanwin and Thomas were felicitated by the guests of honour during the programme.
