Udupi, Dec 6: "I may not be right from politicians' point of view, but may be right in the point of view of the public. My party ‘Prajakeeya’ is here to transform the entire political system into ‘Prajakeeya’ (rule by the people), ‘Prajaaneethi’ (policy by people) and ‘Prajakarana’ (politics by people)," said Kannada actor-director-turned-politician Upendra on Wednesday, December 6.
Addressing a press meet here, Upendra said, "Mistakes do happen when winning is our only goal. There are many political parties who spend crores of rupees during elections. The public knows that it is our money which is being wasted, but no one really speaks up. Most of the candidates consider that caste, religion and money are the main requisites in politics.
"There are wise people in villages, who want to do something for the society. I would like such people to become MLAs and MPs from ‘Prajakeeya’. As there is corruption in politics, education and health sectors too will follow suit. There are 80% of people in the society who want good governance while the remaining 20% do not want so. Here, I am not blaming any party or politician.
"Do not believe me because Upendra the star said so. I want people to think, analyse and discuss problems. People’s representatives’ nowadays are available according to their convenience. But according to me, a politician should work in the midst of society," he said.
"Has the general public seen officers working in public offices? There is no dress code for them and no discipline. All officers in government offices are public servants and are appointed to serve public. We have been adjusting for long which should stop now.
"The society will see a change only when people get good education and health facilities on time. Everything is possible through education. But now, even education has been commercialized," he added.
"Finding solution for problems is very important. According to my plan, there will be complete transparency in the way of working of ‘Prajakeeya’. The MPs and MLAs will have to work from 9 am to 6 pm and will have to give their best for their salaries.
"The present elections are mainly dependent on religion and money. Politicians are speaking very less about problems and solutions," he said.
On a query about his thoughts on sustaining for long in politics and being confident of victory in the upcoming elections, Upendra said, "Doubt is one of the biggest problems. We have to come out this mindset of doubting own abilities. As much as 70 to 90% of the population in Karnataka is conscious enough. I have received 50,000 mails and 30,000 applications to select candidates. I am not begging anyone to join ‘Prajakeeya’ party. Those who are really want change can join voluntarily.
"If my party candidates are caught in corruption after winning elections, I will take the right action. If they do not work sincerely, I will deal with them the right way. There is nothing wrong in doing good for the society and I am here to do so," he said.
