Bengaluru, Dec 5: AICC General Secretary K C Venugopal, who is also Karnataka’s Congress party in-charge, lambasted the BJP MP Pratap Simha for deliberately disturbing law and order situation and asked him whether the National President of BJP Amit Shah was giving prizes for such brutish behaviour.
Speaking to reporters in Bengaluru on Tuesday, he accused the Mysuru-Kodagu MP of intentionally disturbuing the law and order situation at the behest of his party president Amit Shah.
The BJP leaders have no issue to criticise the Congress government. Instead of raising issues related to the development, the BJP leaders have indulged in disturbing the peace in the State, the Congress leader said.
Venugopal contented that the BJP leaders have been propagating communal agenda ahead of the State assembly polls as part of the strategy to polarise voters.
The Congress leader was in the city to review progress and performance of various wings of the KPCC and preparing the poll strategy.
Venugopal referred to a video posted by Simha a few weeks ago on social media, where the MP is heard telling the BJP Yuva Morcha cadre that he was asked by Shah during his (Shah’s) last visit for review of party functioning ahead of elections, to "get aggressive in all protests and demonstrations."
Congress MLC V S Ugrappa said Simha, who was personally driving his car, had tried to crash through police barricades and nearly hit officials deployed for security during the procession. The police should book a case of attempting to murder against the MP.
The video put the Opposition BJP in an embarrassing position, coming as it does just days after some of their district office-bearers in Tumakuru district were accused of beating up a journalist trying to question a party leader’s role in illegal mining. The Government has ordered a probe into it, he said.
The AICC General Secretary also ticked off the State youth Congress leaders and questioned their contributions to the party during run-up to the elections.
"Merely holding protests for photographs by a few youth Congress workers are not enough. Protests are confined only to Bengaluru. Hold protest against the Modi government’s policies across the State,’’ Venugopal told the youth Congress leaders during interactions with them at the party office here.
Venugopal also told National Students Union India leaders to hold protest on December 28, the Congress Foundation Day, against the Modi government for its wrong policies and failure to implement its poll promises to the people.
He asked the NSUI leaders to form 15 member committees in Assembly constituency and launch jathas to create awareness about the ruling Congress government’s performance in different sectors.
