Bengaluru, Oct 12: A man who was instigated by his astrologer to steal from his company is now behind bars. In what seems to be a case of blind faith in astrology, Damodar (42) stole 1,000 computer monitors as he was told by his astrologer that his stars are favouring him to get rich and he won’t get caught.
Damodar a resident of K S Garden, was a store in-charge with Super Electronics Pvt Ltd, a company that supplies TFT monitors to Dell. He had worked in the company for seven years and was one of the trusted employees. However, he was eager to get rich and was looking for shortcuts.
When he told his intention to his friend Krishnaraju (58) who is also an astrologer, he was told that his stars are favouring him and he can get rich. Krishnaraju advised Damodar to steal from his company and assured that he won’t get caught. He also suggested an ‘auspicious’ time to steal and gave him two lemons and said it will help him from the police. He also demanded a share from the booty.
Blinded by belief, Damodar and his brother-in-law Ramdas struck a deal with Saravana and Seenu who were supposed to transport 1,000 monitors worth Rs 58 lac from a company in Tamil Nadu.
On August 11, Damodar received the consignment and shifted it to Krishnaraju’s associate Rajendra’s house. Meanwhile, Damodar issued consignment delivery voucher to Saravana and informed his company that the consignment has arrived and is at the warehouse of a courier company.
Later, Krishnaraju, Damodar and Rajendra sold off all the monitors to computer dealers saying there was some problem due to GST and that they selling the monitors at cheaper rates.
The theft came into light when the company audited its stock and found over 1,000 monitors missing. They conducted an internal probe and later filed a police complaint.
Based on the complaint, Siddapur police detained Damodar, who confessed to the crime. The police then recovered 671 monitors which they had sold to electronic shops on SP Road. The police have also recovered Rs 10 lac and are trying to recover other monitors.
The police have arrested Krishnaraju, Ramdas, Sharavana and Seenu based on Damodar’s confession. Another accused Rajendra is absconding.
