Udupi, Oct 11: Trouble erupted at a bar and restaurant here late night on Tuesday October 11 after three persons, including one who is said to be notorious, refused to pay their bill and allegedly vandalized the premises.
In a complaint filed in Udupi police station here, the accused, identified as Bailakere Kiran Kumar (31), Anwar Kunjibettu and another person came to Pancharatna Bar at around 8.45 pm on Tuesday. After having drinks, the three picked up a fight with the bar employees over the bill and allegedly abused them. They ultimately refused to pay the bill and walked off.
Kiran Kumar and his friends then went to bar owner Santhosh Shetty's office, located in the same premises, and allegedly abused him too.
It is said that at around 11.45 pm, Kiran, Anwar and their accomplice returned to the bar armed with weapons like machetes. The watchman, manager and other employees tried to stop them, but they barged into Santhosh Shetty's office and vandalized the cabin.
Santhosh Shetty, who is a heart patient, took ill from the shock and has been admitted to hospital.
Manjunath, an employee of the hotel who tried to stop the attackers, was also allegedly assaulted and hospitalised.
Kiran, who is an accused in four or five other cases, and his accomplices are alleged to have shattered the glass windows of Santhosh's cabin.
Counter case
However, Kiran has filed a counter complaint against Santhosh Shetty, stating that he and Anwar came out of the bar at around 10.30, when Santhosh and a person named Sujith along with the bar employees attacked them with rods and a knife in a bid to murder them.
Kiran also alleged that Santhosh and Sujith robbed him of his gold chain, finger ring and mobile phone, and that they beat up Anwar and snatched away his iPhone 7 along with Rs 20,000 cash that he had.
Kiran and Anwar have also been hospitalised.
Bother cases have been registered in Udupi police station.
