Pothole claims one more life in B'luru: Woman run over by truck

Bengaluru, Oct 11 (PTI): A woman riding pillion on a two-wheeler was killed today when a truck rammed the vehicle as the rider was trying to avoid a pothole near Devanahalli, police said.

With this, four persons have died in accidents this month because of the battered condition of some of the city's roads.

Police said G Veena (21), a resident of Kundana in Devanahalli, was heading home riding pillion with elder sister G Lakshmi (24).

At the Shettarahalli gate, while trying to negotiate a pothole, Lakshmi slowed down the two-wheeler when a truck hit them from behind. As the women fell off their vehicle, the truck ran over Veena, killing her instantaneously. Lakshmi too sustained serious injuries. She has been admitted to a nearby hospital, the police said. Angry residents blocked the road protesting the pathetic condition of the road.

Police have registered a case against the truck driver who fled the spot leaving his vehicle.

Two days ago, a woman was run over by a truck when the motorcycle she was riding pillion with her nephew skidded near Nayandahalli while negotiating a pothole.

About a week ago, an elderly couple lost their lives when a bus ran over them on Mysuru road flyover as they were trying to avoid a pothole.

The government has come under sharp criticism for the condition of the roads in the city.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has blamed torrential rains for the potholes in the city and has promised to rid the city of potholes in a fortnight.

Bhandumaam, nice to see you back in action. We have been missing you for far too long.

With too many crackpots around, things are getting out of control. How do we drive some sense/fear of the Devil, into these (crack) pots???

I find the fault is by the govt and contractor.why dont the govt.who gave the contract doesnt control the work before giving free for vehicles.Just see if the work is done properly or mistakes there ,and ask for garantie for some years if something goes wrong he is responsible and should repair it.Sometimes I see vehicles pass over even work is not yet completed. Then how can the work and road be in order?Contractor does what he mostly do.pocket the money ,cover the road with mud and some damar on the sides.potholes are everywhere.they will be repaired either when the election is coming or minister arrives. One can swimm in these potholes.May the soul of deceased rest in peace in heaven.Findout where the contractor is and bring him and ask.

First register case and take stringent actions against contractors who had supposedly 'constructed' these roads. Then maybe something will happen. What a sorry state of affairs. RIP.

Potholes have become a big problem not only in Bangaluru but all over the country. These contractors do a shoddy work and the potholes are now a death holes. In New York, they have a toll free number where you can call 24/7 when you see any pothole. It is fixed immediately.

I am sure at least few of them now blame BJP or NDA or Modi too for that!!! Somebody questioned me when I had doubt about CM Siddu's declaration to fill the 15,000 patholes within 15 days or 10 days!!! Now what happened???...may BBMP starts filling the patholes after 15 days due to misunderstanding as usual!!!

Let the contractors do quality road work (asphaltation) wehich has to last for atleast 5 years. Otherwise dont settle the bills. In agreement add one condition to this effect. If pot-holes found within two years let the contractor do the repair work. So insist this.

Strange that in a country ridden with so many laws we have nothing to hold the govt. officials responsible for negligence.
delay in paying taxes we face a penalty , the law system was quick to pass a law on lower than 18 years sex is considered to be a rape while negligence on the part of the officials is passed off with giving expensive contracts to repair roads
I saw the road repair works today in bangalore , my tooth brush has more paste on it than the tar coating on the road
Ministers have a lot to do to ensure that their precious wealth multiplies while commoners are only required to fill those coffers and vote once in a while
buy a new vehicle pay road tax that does not exist , pay garbage cess and garbage is lying all over the place

    wow!
