Mangaluru, Oct 5: A fisherman was killed in a freak accident in a fishing boat which had left from the old Bunder dock here. The fisherman in question, Pokkimagadi Babu (45), who was from Nellore in Andhra Pradesh, lost his life on Wednesday October 4 morning in this incident.
When the boat was spreading the fishnet, the equipment fitted to the net for releasing the rope had got ripped off along with its inch liner welding. The equipment which got separated from the net, came at high speed and its rod hit two fishermen, Vaila Babu, and Pokkimagadi Babu, who were inside the boat. Both were injured in this incident.
The boat thereafter suspended fishing journey and returned to old Bunder dock. However, Pokkimagadi Babu died before the boat reached the shore. As the iron rod had hit his waist region at high speed, he had suffered grievous injury. The boat concerned, 'Jala Shanti', owned by Muhammed Asif, had left the shore on October 2. Vaila Babu suffered minor injuries and he is out of danger. He is being treated in a hospital.
The boat had ten fishermen including driver, Kudur Eshwarayya, at the time this accident happened. A case about this accident which happened on Wednesday morning, was registered in Pandeshwar station.
