Mangaluru, Oct 1: On the occasion of International day for elders, Silver Oasis organized a fun-filled programme for senior citizens on Sunday October 1 here at Falnir.
Nearly 59 senior citizens took part in the function.
Founder of Silver Oasis Melora Pais said, “I have come up with this idea to start an activity centre for senior citizens as they will be free enough during the day when other family members spend time in their daily works.”
“An idol mind may invite diseases, especially among the senior citizens. The activity centre will ensure that they spend quality time,” she added.
The event started with a talk by the chief guest Dr Rameela Shekhar, dean, PG department, School of Social Work Roshni Nilaya and a practicing mental health professional.
Dr Rameela pointed out the need for people to gracefully accept their age and utilize the abundant experience that they have gained over the years.
The talk was followed by activities which included a theatre session and memory games. “I thoroughly enjoyed myself today!” said a-82-year-old Shantha Shenoy.
Soon after the session, senior citizens were informed to join for regular sessions. The registration process for the same will start from next week.
Regular sessions will be held for two hours a day, which includes physical as well as cognitive activities, gentle exercises, lively discussions, cultural entertainment sessions and many more. Silver assistance, a programme to assist senior citizens with outdoor tasks like visiting doctors, hospitals, banks and religious places, will also be available.
