Mangaluru, Sep 24: Scores of citizens of various age groups descended on the city streets here on Sunday September 24 to participate in the Purple Run, an noble initiative organized by Forum Fiza Mall in association with NIMHANS to create awareness on Alzheimer's disease.
Mangaluru city police commissioner T R Suresh flagged off the Purple Run at Forum Fiza Mall here.
The event got a big morale boost when mayor Kavitha Sanil also participated in the 3 km run despite fasting on the eve of Navaratri.
The run was flagged off simultaneously across five Forum Malls in four locations in South India - Koramangala and Whitefield in Bengaluru, Chennai and Hyderabad.
Cash prizes of over Rs 6 lac and gift hampers were won at the programme. The highest cash prize was Rs 35,000 awarded to the first place winner in the 21 km run. The marathon commenced at Forum Fizza Mall and concluded at the same venue.
MLA Mohiudeen Bava and mayor Kavita Sanil distributed the prizes to the winners. As many as 2,270 participants registered for this noble initiative. The money collected will be used toward funding a reasearch team at NIMHANS.
Corporator Divakar, managing director Forum Fiza Group Farooq, assistant centre manager of Forum Mall Fayaz M H, marketing and communications manager Sunil K S, Venu Sharma were present.
