Mangaluru, Sep 22: Rows of bikes were locked with wheel clamps by the police in a drive recently, to curb illegal parking and avoid obstruction to normal movement of traffic, at Attavar.
"For the last two days bikes and scooters parked at the fifth and sixth cross at Attavar were locked with a wheel clamp. At a time, more than ten bikes were locked. There have been plenty of complaints from citizens about parking. The police phone in session also saw many such complaints. Hence, we have initiated the action," said Traffic ACP Tilak Chandra.
"The fifth cross has a residential area and a school. As the parked vehicles caused hindrance to the passing of school vehicles and residents' vehicles, the said operation was held.
"Obstruction of traffic will invite a fine of Rs 100. If parked in a no-parking zone and parked in a way that obstructs movement of traffic, the fine will be doubled," said traffic east police inspector Suresh Kumar.
