Kasargod: Threat at gunpoint - associate of underworld criminal arrested

Kasargod, Sep 22: Personnel of Kumble police station have arrested another person relating to a case in which a gang had gatecrashed into the house of a bar owner at Mangaluru, Sridhar Shetty, residing at Muttam near Bandyodu, threatened to kill him and demanded protection money of one crore rupees. The arrested accused happens to be Yousuf Naushad (25) from Pallam near Permude.

A gang led by Yousuf Naushad had visited the house of Sridhar Shetty at night during March 2017, pointed a gun at him, and demanded payment of one crore rupees. The family refused to budge, at which the gang attacked the family members before fleeing.

In this case, a few have already been arrested. Police say that Yousuf Naushad, who has been taken into custody now, was an associate of underworld fugitive, Kali Yogesh. Naushad also is an accused in a case in which a consignment comprising 85 kg ganja that was being transported in a car was abandoned by the gang after sighting the police personnel. The police also said that he is also an accused in a case of robbing of one kilogram gold from a gold merchant from Trissur during his visit to the town.

Yousuf is being interrogated and information about other accused involved with robbery is being collected from him, police perosonnel stated.

The operation was conducted by Kumble police circle inspector, V V Manoj, sub-inspector, Jayashankar, additional sub-inspector, P P Shivadasan and other personnel of the police station.
