Puttur, Sep 22: The town police here have registered a Suo motu case against regional organizing secretary of Hindu Jagran Vedike (HJV), Jagadish Karanth. Inspector of the town police station, Mahesh Prasad, told the media persons that the police decided to register Suo motu case against Karanth after studying in detail the footage of the video of the event recorded by them.
Karanth has been booked under section 153 of Indian Penal Code. He has been accused of threatening a government servant, inciting enmity between religions, deriding of religion, slanderous remarks against religion etc.

Karanth had delivered keynote address at the protest meeting organized under the aegis of Hindu Jagran Vedike at kIlle Maidan here on September 15. Accusing Karanth of making defamatory utterances about the religious affiliation of government official, Abdul Khader, SDPI had held protest meeting in the town.
K Aziz from Kabaka had requested the police to register case against Karanth, accusing the latter of identifying Abdul Khader by the religion to which he belongs, and launching vilification tirade against the officer with the use of derisive words.
The police said that they would conduct investigation of the case and file charge sheet in the court about the findings.
