Bengaluru, Sep 21: If the opposition BJP has launched Vistarak programme as part of its preparations for the ensuing assembly elections in the State, the ruling Congress party in Karnataka has planned its own 'Mane-Manege Congress' (Congress for every home) in all the 224 assembly constituencies in State from Saturday September 23.
The campaign with the catchy Kannada slogan, Mane-Manege Congress, coined by KPCC Vice President B L Shankar will be launched with the Mahadevapura assembly constituency in the City and simultaneously in all the 224 assembly constituencies in the State.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and AICC general secretary in charge of Karnataka K C Venugopal will attend the programme in Bengaluru.
Under the ‘Mane-Manege Congress’ campaign, a 30-page booklet would be given to each household at the booth level.
This State-wide campaign will end on October 15.
The booklet contains information on development programmes undertaken by the Siddaramaiah government in the last four years.
The campaign aims at gradually transforming the Congress from being a mass-based party to a cadre-based one with active participation of booth-level agents.
In the run-up to the 2013 polls, the Congress had launched many programmes such as:
- Congressina Nadige Janara Balige,
- Congressina Nadige Krishneya Kadege,
- Congressige Banni Badalavane Thanni
to highlight what they called bad governance of the previous BJP regime.
Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president Dr G. Parameshwara said the Congress has decided to appoint 54,000 booth-level agents covering all 224 Assembly constituencies in order to spread the party’s message and inform people of the achievements of the Siddaramaiah and UPA governments.
The party agents will not only educate people on the achievements of the government in the State, but also give feedback to the party on what people think, he said.
