Mangaluru, Sep 21: Congress workers and supporters from Dakshina Kannada district on Thursday, September 21 staged a protest in front of the DC’s Office against hike in fuel prices. Led by district Congress committee, the workers raised slogans while demanding the government to immediately annul the price hike.
Addressing the protesters, Harish Kumar, president, district Congress committee said, “Crude oil prices are coming down across the world resulting in the reduction in fuel prices. However, in the country, the government is seizing this opportunity to increase the fuel prices to make more money. During the Congress regime, despite high prices in international market, the government provided fuel at a reduced cost and controlled rates."
“Modi is spending time luxuriously. He is not at all bothered about the country’s development. He is does not have guts to face media. He keeps saying that he left everything for the nation. But in reality, he only left his wife and is enjoying everything in his life,” he added.
“During the time of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, our banks never faced any crisis. But now, Indian banks are facing financial crisis and the economy is in complete chaos. Demonetisation and other unplanned financial decisions have made common people to suffer,” he concluded.
Dakshina Kannada interim Congress president Ibrahim Kodijal said, “Modi led union government is only busy in discussions on Triple Talaq and safety of cows. The ministers only concentrate on controversial issues which keep them in news. Where are the BJP workers who agitated during the time of UPA government for minimal hike of fuel rates? Now, Modi government is increasing the price of fuel every day. Public will not forgive this government and will teach them a lesson very soon.”
Shalet Pinto, district women's Congress president said that the hike in fuel prices has led to increase in the prices of all essential commodities. She also lashed out over the loan waiver issue and questioned the logic behind a long list of questions to be filled in by the farmers for availing farm loan waiver.
Mayor Kavita Sanil, corporators Naveen D’Souza, Shashidhar Hegde, Sabitha Misquith, MUDA chairman Suresh Ballal, Youth Congress president Mithun Rai, leaders Meryl Rego, Lawrence D’Souza, Suhail Khandak and others were present.
