Mangaluru, Sep 20: Home minister Ramalinga Reddy who visited the city on Wednesday, September 20, held a meeting with senior police officers and other personnel concerning law and order situation in the district.

Later Reddy briefed the media about the instructions he gave to the police in the district.

The instructions are as follows:

Police should make all efforts to maintain law and order.

The police should invoke Goonda Act against the people who try to disrupt peace in the district and send them to jail.

They should take action against the people who charge exorbitant interest in the name of so called meter interest.

Night patrol in the district should be increased.

When paying guests (PG) are kept in houses, strict rules have to be followed so that the neighbours are not disturbed for any reason.

Foreign visitors should be protected by the police. Also the students from other places should always be protected.

Special protection should be given to girl students and also at ITBT companies for the safety of women.

Sub-inspector is responsible for all the lapses in law and order situation under their jurisdiction.

There should not be any delay in registering First Information Report (FIR).

Rape and dowry cases should be handled in such a way that such cases should not be repeated.

Special care should be taken to uproot ganja and drug cases in the district.

Police should behave strictly with criminals so they fear them. At the same time they should be people-friendly.

Prostitution and illegal games should be contained.

Puttur speech

Reddy also said that FIR will be lodged against Puttur Hindu Jagarana Vedike (HJV)president Jagadish Karanth who made inflammatory speech against the police sub-inspector Khader.

Lankesh

“I am very confident that Special investigation Team (SIT) will nab the killers of Gauri Lankesh soon. I am also confident that Kalburgi killers too will be caught,” he said.

“We will take stricter measures to stop illegal supply of drugs to jails in state,” he informed.

“We do not do telephone tapping as alleged by BJP. They are good in that and the Centre is expert in doing this. They are using the government agencies to do this. I will write a letter to the Centre about phone tapping, “he said.

Kavya death

“Investigation relating to Kavya death in Moodbidri is in final stage. Report will come soon and police commissioner will call a press meet on the same soon.”

“All cases which are under COD probe will have to be disposed soon. I am told some cases have been pending for long. We should make sure that they are handled fast,” he said.

Nalin Kumar Kateel

When asked about the status of case registered at Kadri police station against member of parliament Nalin Kumar Kateel, Reddy said chargesheet will be filed soon.

ADGP Alok Mohan, IGP (western range) Hemanth Nimbalkar, police commissioner T R Suresh, superintendent of police Sudheer Kumar Reddy, DCP (law and order) Hanumantharaya were present among others.

    there is saying kannada "thubida koda tulukalla", like home minister reddy is, he is always cool and soft spoken but he will act where ever required with tough decisions, not like drum beater shobha and nalin

    y not take action against Jagadish karanath insulting honest police officer in puttur, if ask Ramantha Rai his reply also strict action, If ask Kadar his reply also Strict action, Now mr Ramalinga reddy also same answer Strict Action, Jagadish Karanth has not been arrested untill now, Congress Stop your play, If not, we will stop your political game, You are responsible for all the incidents in the district.

    Rightly said. We'll wait n see what action will be taken against Jagdishkaranth. If not it implies all are involved in it. Speech was on 15-9-17 and no action till date. Very abusive and insulting speech.
