Mangaluru: Dasara holidays for schools from Sep 21 in Dakshina Kannada

Mangaluru, Sep 20: The state government has modified Dasara holidays circular announced earlier for Dakshina Kannada and Coorg districts.

In a fresh circular on Tuesday, the government has declared holidays from September 21 to October 5. Schools and colleges excluding degree colleges will remain closed during those days. They will reopen on October 6.

As per this year’s academic timetable, Dasara holidays were to start on October 11and end on October 25. However considering the Dasara festivals that are held between September 21 and September 30, the dates for holidays have been amended.

District in-charge minister Ramanath Rai had written to the chief minister Siddaramaiah saying that holidays in October do not fulfil the intention of holidays and requested for changes. Dakshina Kannada district administration also had written that changes made in Mysuru for Mysuru Dasara should be applied to the district also.

The department of education has sent an official order regarding the changes. Deputy Director of public instruction, Shivaramayya has said that school level examinations scheduled during the earlier period will be rescheduled.

Sports tournaments will be held as scheduled earlier. The changes in holidays have made the students and parents glad. The practice of giving holidays after the Navaratri festivals had created dissatisfaction among them.

There has been no change in holidays in Udupi district. Their holidays will begin from October 11 to end on October 25.

    This decision is big problem. Tour plans have to be cancelled and cannot re-schedule it because of lack of tickets, also children have exams after the holidays so they have to spend the holidays studying.
    Its a disaster for children and parents. Dont know on for what motive this was done. Diwali is coming in October and the previous schedule of holidays was matching it perfectly.

    Good decision. But i think it is a election gimmick. These type of decision has to made well in advance. The exams dates are announced and most of the schools having exams from 20 to till month end. Children's are made themselves ready for the exams but all of suddenly exams postponed... children get tense because again they have to prepare for exams and they cannot enjoy dasara holidays. In future if any changes made especially for school colleges make them well in advance.. not in last moment.

    This is Dasara vacation for Schools and Colleges. This decision is for celebration of Dasara in their concerned districts irrespective of Caste, Creed, Color and community.

    I appreciate this govt development works but not this decision....

    many people have planned their vacations in advance, not only locally but from abroad also.

    Main problem for those working in abroad, they want to pass their time with their kids in holidays and now because of sudden changes all lost their programs because of stupid decision at last minute.

    Many parents includeing me have planned to holiday already. We have booked our train, plane, hotel tickets etc. Now this is all waste. I hope our children will not cry. Useless decisions taken at last moment does more harm than good.

    It is the benefit of Airways / Railways & other transport services. Cancellations and re- booking has become a headache to the parents. Family functions are impossible to postpone.

    It is the sole mistake of a Government official sitting on a Secretary level chair who do not have any worries.

    Time is for him to be shunted out immediately.

    Perhaps to be DISMISSED.
    I think all affected will agree to me.....!

    The hindu calendar comes well in advance where festivities could be predicted always. The main purpose of a mid term break for children in October along with Dasara celebrations is purely defeated by these last minute decisions. Our government should plan well ahead on these Dasara holidays so that the holidays could be really utilised fully by the parents as well as children. If the holidays are announced in advance, out of station trips could be arranged properly as travel bookings cant happen at the last minute. Disappointed with the authorities. If everyone remembers, the same thing happened last year too.

    Rai sir you are great ! You are Creative and result oriented working Minister of Dakshina Kannada. You are an asset for our district., this is my personal experience which I had many times. You have created history by changing the exam schedule which has been proposed from 26th Sept. 2017 for PU classes. This is an alert signal for the govt officials who remain sleeping throughout the year, blindly do planning and remain stick for the 'copy paste' works in the department. Due to their unplanned works and idleness now the government schools are in the verge of closure and quality of education has become poor.
