Kundapur, Sep 17: Two fishermen in a fishing boat that was anchored at the dock at Gangolli port indulged in verbal friction before they fought over some issue. The fight culminated in the death of one among them, after he fell into the river and died.
Prakash Poojay (40), from Tekkatte in the taluk, is the deceased person.
Prakash Poojary used to work for a fishing boat owned by Ganesh Kharvi. After the fishing trip on Friday, the fishing boat was brought to the dock. For emptying the catch of fish from the boat, Prakash had tied a rope to SMP Boat that was anchored nearby, for the purpose of stabilizing his boat. On this issue, verbal altercation happened between Prakash and driver of SMP Boat, Chandrakanth.
At one stage, Prakash went into SMP fishing boat. Chandrkanth posed him death threat and hit him hard with a piece of wooden plank found in his boat. Prakash lost his balance as a result, fell into the river, and drowned. Although people present there thoroughly searched for him, Prakash could not be traced. His mortal remains was found on Saturday evening in the sea at Belikeri near Gangolli.
Station house officer of Gangolli, Subbanna, conducted inquest. Policemen said that on the basis of complaint made by brother of Prakash, Soorya Poojary, who was present during the incident, a case of murder has been registered.
The accused Chandrakanth basically belongs to Bhatkal. He was arrested and produced in the court whereupon he was remanded to judicial custody till September 28.
