Udupi, Sep 10: A young girl died on the spot in a tragic accident that took place at Katapady junction on the national highway here on Sunday September 10.

The deceased has been identified as Sushmita (11) from Kateel, Mangaluru.

It is learnt that Sushmita was riding pillion from Kateel to Udyavar with her uncle, identified as Narayan Achari. They were going to see Narayan's under-construction house when the accident took place, sources said.

A bus had halted near the junction on the higway to let passengers alight. It is said that Narayan, who was riding the bike, tried to overtake this bus. At the same time, a truck that was moving in the same direction, rammed into the bike from behind, because of which Sushmita lost balance and fell under the truck. She died on the spot. Narayan was unhurt.

Locals said that the bus was supposed to take the service road that runs along the highway, but it did not. They also complained that many buses halt on the highway at irregular points to drop or take in passengers instead of taking service roads, thus obstructing highway traffic.

A case has been registered.

Key point on the article is "bus was supposed to take the service road that runs along the highway, but it did not. " thousands of such instances where bus drivers create havoc on the roads.... I always say they are the evils on the road. But ideally they should die n such accidents... unfortunately it's innocent bike riders, pedestrians die in such accidents. But what's the big deal. we discuss... public grieve for few days and life will be back as normal until next accident and a cold blooded murder on the road by these drivers. Especially bus drivers on our NH from Mangalore to Udupi. but the department, police, RTO and all authorities sit dumb and deaf.

I have written earlier when this same type of accident happened, the local administration is not doing enough or anything, because they are not travelling by bus or two wheeler, they travel the vehicles which was given by the Govt at the cost of public. There will be many best officers around us, but nothing is happening in reality, no value for human being. A precious soul has been lost, , if it was a political leader then the safety precautions would have solved long back. The RTO & DC officials of both district need to travel by bus from Udupi to Mangalore to find out a better solution............to stop the accidents.... We public expect safety precautions to avoid unwarranted accidents in future to stop losing our human resources....

Mostly, only bike riders or pillion riders are victims of such accidents. Never try to overtake a bus or a truck under any circumstance as they are huge and driven at high speed for some reason or the other. May the soul of 11-year-old Sushmita rest in eternal peace and condolences to the bereaved families and loved ones.

First of all let me pay my humble tribute to the soul of 11 year old girl Shushmita, who lost her life in the most unexpected accident.Om Shanthi. Coming to the next point of,stopping of buses at irregular, not designated places is the common feature both in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts by the private bus drivers. Knowingly all these malpractices by the drivers our esteemed RTO is sleeping without implicating any strict traffic rule to adhere.Either bus/rickshaw or two wheeler drivers do not have least concern towards the pedestrians, general public's life.RTO should be very strict as far as traffic rule is concern. No one should be allowed to stop whether it is auto drivers, bus drivers or two wheeler driver other than the place designated to them.Failing or violating this, should be heavily punished.By stopping at irregular places, not only they pose risk to the life of others but also creating unnecessary traffic jam.I request RTO officials, please awake from your deep slumber and be active to do some stringent traffic rule in order to avoid any future incidents like this.

It is to be understood that the bikes are to be sidelined from road at the earliest, because traffics has been increased in such a huge amount that no one can imagine riding bikes anymore unless and until govt makes some strategies. On this particular highway there is at least one accident per day. Huge highway is constructed but a separate lane for two wheelers was ignored, as a result of this many bid adieu to this world untimely.

Changing lanes, one should be watchful.
Also relative speed should be high otherwise other vehicles behind you, will approach you too quickly..
