Mangaluru, Sep 10: Over 800 athletes from various parts of Dakshina Kannada have gathered in the city for the district-level Dasara Sports Meet that was inaugurated by district in-charge minister Ramanath Rai on Sunday September 10 at Mangala stadium here.
Addressing the gathering, Ramanath Rai said, "We organise Dasara Sports Meet every year. This is a great opportunity for athletes to exhibit their talents. Through this, they can groom themselves into national or international-level athletes. This sports meet lays opportunities wide open for budding athletes. I wish good luck to all the participants."
Chief whip of Legislative Council Ivan D'Souza said, "Athletes have a bright future in the field of sports. Participation is important, winning and losing is part of the game, so accept it positively."
As many as 124 athletes from Puttur taluk, 182 athletes from Beltangady taluk, 102 athletes from Sullia, 110 athletes from Bantwal and 294 athletes from Mangaluru taluk are taking part in this Dasara sports meet.
Division-level sports meet will be organised on September 13, 14, 16 and 17.
Mayor Kavita Sanil, MCC member Jayanthi Achar, Sahul Hameed and others were present.
