Bengaluru: Gauri murder - Home minister's claim on 'vital clue' stumps SIT

Team member says they are still groping in the dark

Bengaluru, Sep 10 (DHNS): The Special Investigation Team (SIT) has got a "vital clue" about the sensational murder of 55-year-old journalist-activist Gauri Lankesh, Home Minister Ramalinga Reddy claimed on Saturday.

Speaking to journalists after meeting senior police officials, including members of the SIT, he expressed confidence that the killers would be "caught soon". He, however, refused to give the details, saying it would hamper the investigation.

The minister's statement has surprised SIT officers who are still reportedly groping in the dark. One of them said they were perplexed by what the minister said. "We have got no clue so far," the officer, who would not be quoted, said.

Gauri was murdered by an unidentified sharpshooter just outside her home in West Bengaluru's Rajarajeshwari Nagar around 8 pm on September 5. Her killing sparked off nationwide protests and drew parallels between the murders of Kannada research M M Kalburgi, rationalist Narendra Dabholkar and communist leader Govind Pansare.

Reddy dismissed the suggestion that the killers espoused a particular ideology. "We are not concerned with the right or the left. Our aim is to catch the assassins," he said.

He felt that some people were trying to "mislead" the investigation by raking up the ideology issue.

Reddy denied the suggestions made by JD(S) state president H D Kumaraswamy and BJP leader R Ashoka that the home minister was not taken into confidence when the SIT was formed. He, however, said: "I will take suggestions from everyone, including Kumaraswamy, Ashoka and retired IPS officer Kempaiah. But the decision will be mine," he said, adding that he had been a legislator for the past 28 years and knew how to wield power.

No faith in CBI, Gauri's mother tells CM

Indira Lankesh, the mother of slain journalist-activist Gauri Lanakesh, says she has no faith in the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

“Let the state set up a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the case,” she told Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday. She met the chief minister to urge him to provide justice to her daughter by arresting her killers. She was accompanied by K S Vimala of the Janawadi Mahila Sanghatane.

Siddaramaiah responded positively and said the government was committed to conducting a fair investigation.

Congress president Sonia Gandhi has spoken to Siddaramaiah over the phone and sought details of the case and the progress in the investigation.

Gauri was shot at point blank at her house in Rajarajeshwari Nagar, West Bengaluru, on September 5.

Looks there is some truth in MR. HM's Statement. Because All congress leaders suddenly stopped to blame right wing Ideology for this murder and and went for defensive mode.

Hats off to Gauri's mother to admit that she has no faith in the CBI. we must have faith in the state Police who are competent enough to nab the assailants. The CBI is nothing but a tool of the central Govt be it Congress or BJP that is used to settle political scores with the opponents.

The shameless cong party is forgetting that, law and order is prmaraily a state subject and it is cong who is ruling the state. so, Kranataka CM should resign accepting moral responsibility. NO more dramas . We had so many deaths in the state with investigations at a 'dead end'.

Did Yogi resigned? Did Vasundhara Raje resigned? Did Khattar resigned? Did Shivraj Singh Chouhan resigned? If they resign on moral grounds then Sidharamaiah also can resign.

What 'vital clue' ? Especially when the Home Ministers big boss Mr. Rahul Khan from Delhi has has openly said who the culprits are. So by hook or by crook the HM and the Karnataka police have to allign their findings to Mr. Khans statement or keep quiet till people forget ,like the Kaluburgi case.

Dongis vital clue are from their frustrated Yuvaraj Pappus statements. Thats all. They just hope it's a right wing
If any party that's more happy from this Murder its Congress and it's very obvious. They learnt this after using kalaburgi case in Bihar which gave them success. That itself is a clue police should follow unless they are Dongi govts puppets.

    People,

"vital clue" of a politician means nothing...Police should talk about progress in investigation not politicians...

HDK says SIT Chief is corrupt and sold 3.5 Kg seized from accused and brought Property....what type of investigation we could expect from such characters....

I believe SIT should be formed how Sandalwood trees disappeared in daylight from IGP bunglow in Mangalore first!!!...

How many people holding important posts whether in the government or in the bureaucracy really merit it. ? Being stain free or of good character really does not matter here in today's world. If one has good connections/influence what is the need for character/being stain free. Also if one is popular enough to get enough votes one becomes MLA, MP, etc.. Muktar Ansari from UP is a known criminal don but very popular and is a five time MLA. There are many more cases of even more popular stained politicians occupying important posts but I do not wish to start another debate here. Pointless arguing as we citizens have to live with the leaders/officials that are somehow there whether we approve of them or not.
