Mangaluru, Sep 8: The police have registered an FIR against MP Nalin Kumar Kateel of BJP who was caught on camera abusing and threatening the police over his party's 'Mangaluru Chalo' protest.
During the 'Mangaluru Chalo' protest by BJP Yuva Morcha on Thursday September 7 that saw the party's state leaders including Yeddyurappa, Eshwarappa, R Ashok and many others in attendance, the protestors pushed through the barricades set up by the police in violation of the ban on the rally to Nehru Maidan. The police who intervened detained around 850 protestors, including leaders.
Nalin Kumar Kateel allegedly obstructed police duty and was caught on camera abusing and threatening Kadri police inspector Maruthi Nayak of calling a bandh within half an hour over detention of BJP members.
He was also seen banging on the table in anger and trying to grab the inspector's phone.
The video went viral in no time, with people from various quarters criticising the MP for his behaviour.
The Kadri police have registered an FIR against Nalin Kateel and two others, based on a complaint by inspector Maruthi Nayak. The case has been registered under IPC section 353 (deterring public servant from discharging duty).
