Kasargod: Police arrest accused in sexual harassment case

Kasargod, Sep 3: A police team led by police circle inspector of Vidyanagar station here arrested Basheer C H, a resident of Chullikana in Badiyadka,who has been accused of sexually harassing a girl. 

Basheer was working in marketing department of a firm. He reportedly earned goodwill of the girl, promised to marry her, led her to different places and sexually harassed her. He had falsely claimed himself to be a bachelor, although he is married and has two children. The police said that the accused had sexually exploited the girl in the backyard of his home and another house at Maniyampare. 

The girl had suddenly disappeared recently. After a search operation was launched, she was found from Karwar. When she was questioned, she revealed what she was going through. In addition to Basheer, the police have also registered case against Kunhahmed from Peral Kumble, who was involved with Basheer in sexually harassing the girl. This case has since been transferred to Kumble station.

As soon as the matter came out, some more have gone into hiding, it is learnt. Both the accused have been booked under the provisions of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. The girl was put through medical examination and produced in court. She has since been sent to the child care facility at Paravanadka.
