Mangaluru, Sep 2: Police commissioner T R Suresh said on Friday, September 1 that traffic advisory committee meetings will be held at the local level to smoothen the traffic system. The police commissioner was answering queries in the 55th police phone in programme held at his office.
Answering a query from a person in Bondel about repeated accidents at KHB colony, Kudremukh Township and Bondel junction, due to lack of reflectors and humps, the commissioner said, “Traffic advisory committees have been formed at respective places. They will hold meetings at traffic police stations and look into the issues. Such meetings will be extended to residential areas too. Programmes concerning traffic awareness will also be held at local schools and colleges.”
The commissioner also assured of action against the guilty when a woman complained about mobile phone shops issuing SIM cards illegally on the basis of fake documents.
Action against money lending business
A female student from Maroli requested for action against money lending business. She said that the father of her classmate committed suicide after being cheated in business, but nobody came forward to lodge a complaint. The commissioner responding to her said that complaints on such cases should be lodged without fear. “The complainants will be provided suitable protection,” he said.
Transgender menace
“Some transgenders are harassing people for money. They clap and create nuisance if not given money, complained a resident from Thokkottu. The commissioner said that a nearby patrol vehicle will be sent immediately to the place if complained.
Action against buses
“Though ticket machines are made mandatory in buses, private buses have not implemented the rule. The conductors keep quiet even if students sit on seats reserved for senior citizens,” said a person.
The commissioner replied that strict action will be taken against such buses. “A civil squad will be formed for the purpose. The licenses of buses identified by them will be recommended for cancellation,” he said.
“It is not possible to cross road as buses to Surathkal ply at excessive speed. As two wheelers are being parked on the footpath, pedestrians have to walk on the road. Buses do not come to the service bus stand,” said a complainant. The commissioner assured of suitable action.
Roads full of potholes
“As there are potholes on the roads at Kankanady, Karavali circle, Bendorewell, and Kulur, it is difficult to drive buses,” said a bus owner.
“The matter will be brought to the notice of corporation commissioner for suitable road repairs,” said the commissioner.
The commissioner said that students ride two wheelers without wearing helmets. “Action will be taken against them based on CCTV footages,” he said.
Action plan
“Vehicles including those belonging to police department are being parked on Jail Road despite a ‘No parking’ board. A net should be fixed above the boundary wall to prevent throwing of Ganja packets, mobiles etc from outside,” suggested a caller.
The commissioner requested the general public to send pictures of such incidents on whatsapp to Kudla traffic. He also said that he has visited the jail to inspect such incidents and held discussions with the jail staff. “An action plan is being prepared to prevent such incidents,” he said.
Traffic department ACP Thilak Chandra, police inspector Suresh, ASI Sham, staff Purushotham, and chief secretary of bus owner’s association Suchetan were present 55th Police phone in programme.
