Mangaluru, Sep 1: The special court here announced sentences in the case of ganja trafficking incident which happened a year ago at Kurnadu village near Mudipu. After finding the three persons arrested in the cases, Hafiz alias Abi (32) from Taudugoli Cross Naringana, Muhammed Siraj (22) from Kandila House in Renjady, Belma village, and Muhammed Imtiaz (28) from Muhammed Imtiaz, guilty, it imposed them 18 months of imprisonment and fine of Rs 15,000 each.
The above three had been arrested by Konaje police inspector, Ashok P, and other police personnel from Kayargoli in Kurnadu village on May 10 last year. 1,100 grams of ganja, two motor bikes and a sword were seized from their possession. Cases under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act and Arms Act were registered against them. Ashok had conducted investigation and filed charge sheet in the court.
Judge of the special court for cases under Narcotic Drugs Act, K S Beelagi, who conducted th hearing, pronounced sentences as above. In case the guilty fail to pay fines, they will undergo 30 days of additional sentences. The judge had pronounced the accused guilty on August 30, but quantum of sentences were declared on Thursday. The judge also ordered for separate hearing about impounding of motor bikes seized in the case.
Public prosecutor, Pushparaj Adyantaya, argued the case on behalf of the prosecution.
