Bengaluru: I-T raids D K Shivakumar's close aide, Congress leader Vijaya Mulgund, 9 other locations

Bengaluru, Aug 30 (Agencies): The Income Tax (I-T) department on Wednesday carried out raids at 10 locations across Bengaluru, Chennai and Delhi in connection with Karnataka Minister Energy Minister DK Shivakumar case.

Income Tax officials raided the residence of Karnataka Congress Secretary Vijaya Mulgund, an official said.

Mulgund is known to be a close aide of energy minister D K Shivakumar, and is said to have assisted Shivakumar in hosting the Congress MLAs from Gujarat in a Bengaluru resort recently.

"The raid is related to the raid on (Karnataka Power Minister D.K.) Shivakumar's house that took place a few weeks ago," an I-T Department official told IANS. "Today's raids are taking place simultaneously in New Delhi and Bengaluru."

On August 2, I-T officials raided Shivakumar's official residence here and a private resort near the city where 44 Congress lawmakers from Gujarat were staying.

The officials had then seized over Rs 10 crore. The raids were conducted at 39 locations of his relatives and aides in New Delhi and Bengaluru.

The Congress had then accused the BJP of indulging in "political vendetta".

Reddy who was on bail from jail had extravaganza wedding ceremony in the middle of the PM Modi's ambitious 'demonetisation' drive. They are getting desperate as the writing on the wall is getting clearer and clearer with each passing day. Amit Shah and his chelas are finding it difficult to digest that they won't be getting anywhere near power in the next Assembly elections. They are caught napping by the State government in general and CM Siddhramaiah in particular in the last couple of months. In the last 4 and half years, BJP has hardly played the role of the opposition to the fullest. They made several accusations but did not take even one of them to the logical end. The State BJP is a divided house with Yeddy-Shobha, Eshawarappa, Anant Kumar and now Santhosh factions trying to ascertain their supremacy. Amit Shah has learnt this bitter truth during his recent visit to Karnataka and that's why he's planning to a CM candidate outside these people. But then he is well aware that only person who can get them vote in Karnataka and only person who can challenge Siddhramaiah's popularity is Yeddy. So Yeddy will be projected as CM candidate till the elections, but plans are afoot to defeat him in his own constituency so that he does not become CM. Modi's name will not get vote for BJP in Assembly elections because people of Karnataka know well that if BJP wins, Modi will not be CM of Karnataka. So what's the use of voting in Modi's name? Even during the 2013 elections, Modi had canvassed widely in Karnataka including in Coastal districts. But wherever Modi canvassed, BJP was almost wiped out. Why people have to vote BJP in specially after they were shown door last time for their poor performance which resulted in 3 CMS in 5 years. All these factors are making BJP is uneasy and that's they are searching for other ways to diminish the popularity of the state government. But I don't think, they will even be able to get 75 seats in the next elections because they are just rudderless and are caught badly in their own web.

    Mr Santhosh

Congress got elected the last time because the BJP was a divided house. BJP became three factions the Ramulu faction , yeddy faction & remaining faction. That apart, the relentless airing of the PUB attacks , Porn watching in the assembly episode and the Halappa episode in news channels did not go well with the voters especially women. Congress is a corrupt partyt. there is corruption in administartion. the recent survey says the story. However, Siddu has been able to hold sway as backward caste leader and project himself as champion of Daliths. Dalith Card may not work the way he thinks so. even this has a threshod beyond that it wont give him divindends infact it would work opposite after the threshold. Take the case reservations in promotions. which is blatantly negative discrimination and not a positive discrimnation at all. this was stuck down by the supreme court too. when it is streched alittle too far the minorities too would get edgy as the conditions of minorities especially in hyderbad karnataka is as worse as that of Daliths. Though many may not agree yedyurappa may get get a small chunk of vote from minorities given his doling out some funds to minoritieswhich was not expected when he was in the helm. The coming election would be a neck to neck fight and not a cake walk for Congress. The risk for congress would be winning in a thin margin which would lead to fight within the Congress.

While I agree that BJP's own internal problems had impact on last Assembly elections, I don't think anyone but BJP can be blamed for this. They invited it upon themselves. Their governance was all but shambles, an utter flop-show. I don't want to comment much on corruption and other innumerable 'characteristics' of that government, for me their biggest failure was throwing away the opportunity that had been presented to them on a platter by a cunning Kumaraswamy. They failed miserably. I mean 5 years, 3 CMs, 2 DCMs, a CM and few ministers in the jail during their tenure. It was just too much for a party which had come to power for the first time and which had just about simple majority. They failed the voters by an instable political atmosphere. More than their internal bickering, people were fed up of the political instability that had resulted in non-performance. They began ambitiously but ended disastrously.

And now after 5 years almost the same faces that were sent to jail, same people who fought for power are again going to the people. What has changed in BJP and its state leadership after the last debacle? Nothing! Their CM candidate and only mass leader Yeddyurappa is yet to come out of 20+ corruption cases. Take out Yeddyurappa, none of the other leaders have that aura and mass presence. It was seen in 2013 when Yeddyurappa was out of BJP. More than Yeddyurappa needs BJP, it’s the BJP that needs Yeddyurappa because only he and only he can get them votes. Rest all, the so called tall leaders have hardly any presence outside their own constituency, be it Shettar, Ashok, Eshwarappa or anyone else.

BJP is in better position in the country not because people are with them but because of Modi. It's Modi's personal charisma that is getting votes for them. Sans Modi, BJP is as depleted and as rudderless as any other and apart from Modi, there's not a single leader in BJP who has pan-India appeal. But would his magic work in Karnataka during coming Assembly elections? I have my own reservations. Yes he is popular, people like him and there's a huge support base. But why should we vote BJP looking at Modi's personality when we are sure that even if BJP wins, Modi won't be the CM of Karnataka? The CM would be one among the existing lot whom we had sent packing last time. Ultimately state will be ruled by same set of leaders who failed us last time. Even though Yeddy is most popular choice of people it can't be neglected that he comes only second in that after Siddhramaiah as on this day. The very Lingayat vote bank that BJP is banking on is dwindling with the recent controversy and BJP and Yeddy's silence on separate religion issue isn't helping them either. At least most of the Lingayat leaders in Congress have taken a clear stand in the public but Yeddy and BJP are caught in cross-firing. By far Yeddy is still the most popular leader among Lingayats even today but he is no more the unanimous and unquestioned leader of Lingayats as it used to be. BJP is still the first choice of many Lingayats but it's not the only choice as it used to be earlier. Social engineering that BJP did in UP, is being done in Karnataka intelligently by Siddhramaiah. BJP is fed with its own medicine and they are yet to find a way to counter these moves. While the present government too has its demerits and failures, its merits surely are more. The best thing that has happened is that Congress has given a stable government and at least on the surface no anti-incumbency is seen.

People who told that Siddhramaiah would be toppled within months are proven wrong as he is almost set to complete his full term. The way he has handled his own adversaries within the party such as Kharge, Parameshwar and DKS, shows the political maturity and astuteness that he has perhaps imbibed from his mentor Deve Gowda.

The way he handled Ambarish and Khamarul Islam etc after last Cabinet reshuffle shows he is ready to bit the bullet. Defeating someone like Srinivas Prasad in his own backyard also proved that people had more faith in this CM now than before. There was blame on this government that it had not taken off. But last one year has been quite different. If BJP is failed when it had power, it has failed now as an opposition too. They have not been able to effectively dent CMs popularity. Though they have made accusations, they haven't been able to prove even one among them and none of them have been taken to logical end. In way, BJP in Karnataka failed both as ruling party and the opposition. When the present government is doing better than the previous government, when it has ushered in a stable political atmosphere in the state unlike the previous 5 years, why should people go back to a government that was failure and unstable? Just because of Modi? If that's the case, would Modi be our CM if we vote BJP? No! If BJP win means having to put up again with Yeddyurappa, Eshwarappa, Shobha, Ashok, Katta, Reddys etc, then why a voter should vote them?

I feel this is a tactic used by the BJP to frustrate and demoralise D K Shivkumar so that he finally gives up and is forced to join the BJP. This way the BJP can get him on its side and in return all his sins would be forgiven.

Exactly, One of DKS close aide joined BJP few days back. Even his house was raided together with DKS's. But as soon as he joined BJP accepted him, washed all his sins with milk and he is clean now. Same way they are trying on this guy as well. Heights of desperation.
