Mangaluru: Drunk driving - police file 91 cases, seize 21 vehicles in a day

Mangaluru, Aug 14: Police personnel belonging to the city police commissionerate launched a drive against drunken driving on the night of Saturday August 12. During the entire night, they registered 91 cases of drunk driving and confiscated 21 vehicles.

The police had launched a special drive to detect drunken driving on Saturday night and had set up check posts at various spots within the commissionerate limits.

During the phone-in programme on Friday, several had complained about reckless and high speed driving by drivers under the influence of liquor. Deputy commissioner of police, Hanumantharaya, said that the drive against drunken driving to weed out this menace will continue.

    Well Done Mangalore Police to carry out these type of drives and operations.

    I suggest this has to be applied and carried out day time as well, should not be only limited to the nights specially on Auto Rickshaw and tempo drivers in the city, they don't even drive the vehicle without consuming alcohol.

    if the police conduct these type operations there will be a drastic reduce in congestion and confusion on the city roads. and once they start penalizing and confiscate the vehicle this could be effective.

    will city police conduct such operations or collect some bribe from Rickshaw Drivers and leave them to cause accidents?

    On Saturdays most of the guys even ladies celebrate like Saturday Night Fever. So police have to watch this and book cases against the drunken drivers. Good job done by police by booking 91 cses.

    Please do these every day. The drunk drivers usually put high beam lights in the night as their senses are not fully OK and in doing that blind the oncoming drivers from the opposite side and especially 2 wheeler vehicles run the risk of collision.

    Even though helmet wearing is compulsory , on can see , early morning commuters without helmets. Does it mean that nowadays there is laxity in enforcing Helmet rule?
    Similarly anti-drunk driving enforcement should be a sustainable effort. Drunk customers of bars should be provided a ride to home using auto or taxi. Surely can avoid accidents.
    Finally the diesel vehicles ( buses , trucks) do not seem to have a proper pollution check. They spew out heavy smoke that is root cause of cancers, worsening of asthma and early death.
    I fear the system of ours that absolves the culprits who " pay" either to get a clean pollution certificate ( emission pass) to a zero alcohol in their blood is the root cause of peoples suffering.

    Drinking and driving is a very serious and dangerous problem. Many people every year are killed or injured because of drunk drivers. Please also catch the people using mobile when driving and catch the people ride 2 motor cycle without helmet. Make rule to put such people behind bar without any bail..... Than only the people will take it serious.

    Drink driving the best option to tell the people that drink,drive But don't do both.Either drink or drive.
    While you drink and drive you have to remember following rules.
    RULE 1 -Avoid roads where police traffic police check points.
    RULE 2- Drink plenty of water continously for this you need to stop very frequently for release your self or nature's call.
    RULE 3- Start thinking of your office boss,your EMI,your credit card outstanding or even your wife.
    This thoughts will help you to keep your alert.

    GOOD JOB , really appreciate . drink as much as u can use rikshaw , rent a taxi go home safely. If u cant afford sit at home enjoy your drink. If drink and drive will stop then will save many lives and accidents.

    Thanks to Mangalore POLICE and Please continue This Task forever unless or until it comes to control People Should have the fear of driving the vehicle after drinking this can only possible by POLICE Department this helps in to feel safe in Mangalore roads. Drink and Drive is a Big Offence. Drivers are playing with the lives of innocent people we won't say Drinking is an offense but Drunk and drive it is and should be punishable offense let the guilty should be punished according to the Law....

    Inside the city limit itself everywhere there are wine shops and restaurants serve alchohol openly without having licence to do so. Excise department and police knowingly allow these business to flourish. On the whole government and police as well as those who carry on these illegal activities profit causing greater harm to the poor and middle class people. Authority that can stop these illegal business please take quick action before you having check on the drunken drivers.
