Mangaluru, Jul 26: The murder of Pawan Raj Shetty (21), son of slain rowdy sheeter, Vamanjur Rohi, who was murdered by a gang with sickle on Monday had come into the open on Tuesday. Allegedly, Pawan and some of his friends used to gather at the dilapidated house near his home, where his lifeless body was found, regularly to consume ganja. Reason for this murder are unclear.
It might be relating to ganja trafficking, or excuted by gangs which had posed life threats to him in the past. It is said that there were fights between certain gangs and Pawan had several enemies.
City police commissioner, T R Suresh, said that the police have preliminary information about four persons accused of having involved with this murder, and that details are being put together. He said that the department is confident of arresting them soon. "Pawan Raj faced four cases in different police stations in the city relating to murder attempt, robbery etc, and the fact that he was hit by a sharp weapon gives rise to the notion that he was killed on account of preexisting enmity. Pawan was the main accused in the case of murder attempt on Santosh Kottary near Vamanjur check post in 2014 when the latter had gone out to bring food. Kottary had survived the attack made with a sharp, crooked knife used during cock fights. He said that a team of city crime branch police and rural police station are investigating this murder.
Pawan Raj had visited his home in the afternoon of Monday and left home after lunch. At around 3 pm that day, his mother, who always worried about the threat her son faced, had spoken to him over cellphone but thereafter his cellphone was switched off. Worried by this development, his brother and mother had begun to search for Pawan. On Tuesday morning, when they were searching, they found the body of Pawan from a room in a dilapidated house located about a hundred metres away from their home. The locals immediately called the police, after which the police conducted inquest and carried the body to Wenlock Hospital for postmortem.
Pawan, who was arrested relating to robbery case near Gurpur Parari, had come out on bail two months back. He mostly remained at home thereafter, it is learnt. Pawan had studied till SSLC and his twin brothers are in college now. Pawan was a good sportsman and sprinter. Many a time Pawan and his friends were found in the dilapidated house where his body was found, and many believe that it was used as a den for ganja consumption.
Pawan's body bore injury marks in the neck and head. Two sickles, cellphone, footwear, and blood stains on the wall were found at the murder spot. The sniffer dog went for 50 metres from the venue of murder before losing way. Perhaps because of rain, the scent would have been lost, it is being thought. Forensic science experts too surveyed the area for clues.
City police commissioner, Suresh, Dakshina Kannada district superintendent of police, Sudheer Reddy, deputy commissioner of police (law and order),. Shantharaju, deputy commissioner of police (crime and traffic), Hanumantharaya, southern division assistant commissioner of police, Rama Rao, police inspectors, Shivaprasad and T D Nagaraj, sub-0inspector, Sudharkar, were among those who visited the spot.
