Mangaluru: ‘Unhappy with road renaming issue’ - Sunder Ram Shetty Abhimani Balaga

Mangaluru, Jul 25: Mulki Sunder Ram Shetty Abhimani Balaga and Vijaya Bank Workers and Officers Union, Mangaluru zone, will jointly organise an annual remembrance programme of Mulki Sunder Ram Shetty at Town Hall on July 29.

Addressing media persons at Hotel Ocean Pearl on Tuesday, July 25, Ajith Kumar Maladi, working president of Sunder Ram Abhimani Balaga said, "Mulki Sunder Ram Shetty was a person who gave a lot of good things to the society. He is known as an achiever in the field of banking. We will take the further steps against the state government's stay order issued on the renaming of the Light House Hill Road which passes near St Aloysius College,”

“We are not against any community or party. We know about the college and its achievements and fame. We respect the institution. We did not request the MCC for the renaming of the road, but they themselves suggested the road and granted permission to rename it in the name of Mulki Sunder Ram Shetty. We got the permission legally for renaming the road. We will now approach the legal way against the stay order." Maladi added.

"We do not know the reason behind the stay order. We are peace lovers. So in this remembrance programme we will remember the contributions of Mulki Sunder Ram Shetty to the society. We will publicise his achievements to the future generation. At the same time, we will also take the decision on legal proceedings against the stay order," he informed.

Dr Mohan Alva, president, Mulki Sunder Ram Shetty Abhimani Balaga said, "The stay order has insulted MCC's decision. Locals and fans of Mulki Sunder Ram Shetty are disappointed. So, we will fight against the government order with the support of all communities. We will not include politics in our fight. The remembrance day will help us show our unity and pride over Mulki Sunder Ram Shetty."

Dr Vinay Hegde, K Amarnath Shetty, A Sadananda Shetty, Mulki Karunakara Shetty, Shridhar Shetty M, Raghuram Suvarna and Seetha Charan Shetty were present.

    Mr.Amith , USA,
    I am in Muscat to make my living rather than dependent & invested in Mangalore that provided many poor people daily bread and butter for sure, then I went again back to Muscat temporary, sonner or latter as we get only work permit and we like it permit only ( not for me) to make opening capital so that I can open public emergency service, does it make sense to you?

    Pros and Cons of naming the street has been in discussion for over a month. In the midst of this discussion the institution which Mr. Sundaram Shetty nurtured and made a giant in the Indian bank history, may disappear from the scene, if the Government plans of merging the banks is implemented. From what I have read in the paper recently there is possibility of merging Vijay Bank with either Canara Bank or Indian Oversees Bank.

    Totally agree. Appreciate this Balaga first concentrate on how to retain the identity of this bank which is like to be history soon if the plans of the central government are executed by RBI rather than worry about getting a road named for Mr. M. S. Shetty.

    Ms.tom cat, Mumbai , Mangalore - you are living in Marathawada Dist. where today 9 people die every single day in train accidents due to lack safety standard and you are talking about Mulkly beautification? come down to homeland and do it personally, sitting there & talking doesn't mean antyhing.

    Nancy, before preaching others better you practice!!!! What are you doing in Muscat please come down first and join these retired "Balaga" then only you can have the right to invite tom cat. What tom cat commented is 101 % CORRECT!!!!! Erect a brand new 101 km long Toll Free Motorway and donate it to India, where you have the absolute right to name it of your choice .

    No other job for these people it seems. The road should be Light house hill road only. The road between Jyothi circle and Bunts hostel road should be name as Sunder Ram Shetty. Why to change such a good and beautiful name. Unnecessary complications. Created.

    Yes its true that Mr. Sundararama Shetty is a gentleman of our Mulki Town. The great person, who gave a lot of people employment in Vijaya Bank including my so many uncles and to the society as well. He is a Hero of Banking. So, his name should give the main road of Mangalore City. If it is done by Mangalor City Corporation shall be highly appreciated by us that is "Mulki Sundararama Shetty Abhimani Balaga".     Can't you find any places in Mulky?????? Please convert Mulky - Moodbidri road to 8 ways Motorway with 2+2 Emergency lanes in both sides. That is the real Gratitude to the departed Great Soul!!!!

    shame on you guys fighting for things when it should be given to you willing , without information you people wanted rename a road . Why going for second hand "rename when it was somebody else".

    Develop a road make it beautiful and name it . Don't go for second hand stuff renaming.

    Going legally will further will make sundararama shetty not rest in peace.

    As a last option there many roads in Mumbai with British names take rename it no body will object even Shiva Sena . (LOL)

    My only suggestion is instead of fighting for naming the road these stalwarts should contribute to the beautification of this road. I'm surprised Dr Mohan Alva like people spearheading this issue.

    Late Sundera Rama Shetty worked more for the Bunts community. Hence Bunts community can go for a compromising formula. They can change the name of Bunts Hostel Road as Mulki Sunder Rama Shetty Road and avoid the tussel of Light House Hill Road.
    No where in Udupi any road is named as Dr T M A Pai Road who is the architech of Syndicate Bank and present Manipal

    Best thing to do, is to name any road in Mulky after Mulky Sunderam Shetty....I don't know whats wrong with these Mangalore Corporators...unnecessarily creating issues...

    Corporator's if you really like Sunderam Shetty's work, best way to honour him is follow his footsteps and if possible rename your children with his name....

    Are Babus! We love and adore late Sundarama Shetty - several vijaya Bank branches through out
    Karnataka and elsewhere has provided good pay to so many! My sister works for the bank and she loves the job and management.
    Why don't we name the Road that runs from Mulky to Kukkette and beyond - its much longer road
    and covers so many big and small communities.
    More people know Mr. S. Shetty in and around Mulky than Mangalore lets honor our hero at "home"
    not so many miles away to in-welcome city!
    Avoid the mess in honor of the BIG MAN - this mischief shouldn't have allowed to rouse up the city
    public in the first place! Lets honor OUR LEADER IN OUR HOMES AND COMMUNITIES!
    Mr. S. Shetty will be much HAPPIER AND REST IN PEACE IF WE Didn't FIGHT OVER THIS ISSUE!
