Beltangady, Jun 21: A man moving in a motor bike tried to molest a female pedestrian. He was caught by the people who handed him over to the police. The incident happened in the outskirts of the town on Tuesday June 20.
The accused in this case happens to be Ibrahim (34) from Kavalakatte in Bantwal taluk, who deals in fertilizers. Currently he has rented a house in Ujire, it gathered. On Tuesday, seeing that a girl was walking to her home alone at a deserted spot, Ibrahim, who approached her in his motor bike from the front, molested her. The girl became panicky and shouted for help. Some people who were nearby came running, hearing the shouts of the girl.
Overtaken by apprehension, the youth rode his motor bike ahead at high speed, lost control over it, and hit an auto rickshaw that was approaching the spot. The people rushed there, caught hold of Ibrahim and handed him over to the police.
On the basis of complaint filed by the girl, Ibrahim was booked under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. Although hundreds of people gathered in front of the police station upon learning about the incident, the police dispersed them and succeeded in thwarting further trouble. Police circle inspector, Nagesh Kadri, and sub-inspector, Ravi, guided the operation.
