Mangaluru: Tech savvy police open Traffic Automation Centre to curb violations

Mangaluru, Jun 20: In a new initiative to curb traffic violations, the city police on Tuesday June 20 inaugurated a Traffic Automation Centre and handheld devices to enable spot fines at the traffic east police station here.

DCP Shantharaju and DCP Hanumantraja inaugurated the centre and the devices.

Explaining the functioning of the centre, DCP Shantharaju said, "The entire city is now covered by CCTV cameras. Violators cannot escape from the law. This centre is a part of MTrack 2 project which is being implemented in every district.

"We have fixed 75 cameras in 30 different spots in the city. The 16 cameras which were provided by the government earlier are also connected to this centre. Once violation is confirmed, notice will be issued from the centre. There also 16 handheld devices which the traffic personnel will use in prime locations. Officers can send details of violators to the control room through these devices. Besides this, the past track record will also available in these devices," he said.

The police, on finding a violation, will go through the details of the RC owner and send him a post with details of the violation and fine. Fines are to be paid in the police stations.

    Good move if it is controlled properly. Hope this will solve it least some of the accidents and miss behavior of the rash drivers. Thanks to the people those who worked to make this technology possible.

    Our traffic systems are so poor that is why violations occurs. First set right the traffic systems than all other work.

    If anything from the following list is improved, then the investment on this is worth.

    1. Illegal parking stands by Auto rickshaws.
    2. Speeding/racing city buses
    3. Too much honking by public transport
    4. Bus conductors always standing on foot board hindering movement of passengers.
    5. Buses stopping anywhere other than designated bus stops.
    6. Buses picking up passengers from middle of the road.
    7. Parking vehicles on no parking areas
    8. Parking vehicles on foot paths, thus forcing pedestrians to walk on the middle of road jeopardizing life.
    9. Buses driving thru alternative route to avoid traffics.
    10 . Auto rickshaws not willing to go to the destinations where passengers wants to. Being choosy.
    11. Abusive drivers / conductors
    12. Buses not giving enough time to passenger to get into / off the bus. ( Old aged / sick / divyangs. )
    13. Two wheelers riders without helmet / more persons than the actual capacity.
    14. Driving / riding on the wrong side of the road - Very common.
    15. Continue use of Full Dipper lights - making the other drivers blind on the opposite direction.
    16. Driving schools are teaching only how to pass the driving test. Not actual driving.
    17. Whenever there is traffic block, creating more and more lines from the left, from the right, everywhere.
    18. Everybody is in a hurry. The one who comes from left wants priority, the one who comes from right wants priority, the one comes from middle also wants priority.
    19. No one understood yet how to approach round about / circle. Not even concerned department.
    20. No one knows what's ZEBRA crossing is, May be all are waiting for the Zebras to come from Africa.

    The list goes on...................

    Most important of all is "NO BODY RESPECTS ANY BODY"

    KSRTC buses are much better than private carriers. Most of the private buses and Auto Rickshaws are the one who troubling citizens.

    Everything goes for a toss after paying mamuli. Al is well with money. Every technology is there to monitor but bribe is not monitored in any place .

    Reality...
    I took a bus to Udupi from State Bank Bus Stand. In Hampankatta driver diverted bus towards K.S. Rao road instead of Bavuta Gudda as there was much traffic ( violation of traffic rules ) After driving little further, Cops stopped the bus and the conductor went to them and came back after a while. Came to know from him that this offense has costed him Rs.100 (only) Where did this money go??? he did not get a receipt.
    Conclusion: any number of cctvs in the city, only will improve income of someone.

    A RIGHT STEP IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION. It is indeed good to see that the traffic Automation centre has been installed at the Kadri Police Station to detect and curb traffic offences.

    In the United States of America and Canada despite a very large number of vehicles on the roads not many policemen are seen as almost all busy areas are covered by automatic traffic detectors. Obviously with the present traffic police force which not is adequate it is necessary that the traffic offences are detected by these devices
