Doha, Apr 10: QATAR Airways has introduced a Boeing 777-300ER on the Doha – Mumbai sector which will enable passengers to and from India’s financial hub to experience “special features” in the aircraft designed for long-haul flights.
On the Mumbai route Qatar Airways uses Boeing 777-300ER built in a two-class layout of 42 seats in business class (2-2-2 configuration) and some 293 seats in economy in a 3-3-3 layout.
The Boeing 777-300ER that is now being deployed on the Mumbai route is the one which flies to Dulles International Airport in Washington DC. Boeing 777-300ERs are capable of flying 14 hours non-stop.
“Mumbai passengers now get excellent connection to and from Washington DC through Doha. We used to fly Airbus A330 in a two-class layout on the Mumbai route,” an airline source told Gulf Times last night.
The Boeing 777s feature Qatar Airways’ next generation Oryx Entertainmet in-flight entertainment system offering every passenger in both business and economy class a choice of more than 700 audio and video options. The interactive service includes over 150 international movies, 150 TV programmes from around the world, and more than 50 games and 500 audio CDs to choose from.
Qatar Airways announced orders for 32 Boeing 777 Extended Range (ER) and Long Range (LR) aircraft at the Dubai Air Show last year.
Two Boeing 777-300 ERs have already been delivered which are now being used on the Washington DC and Mumbai routes.
The remaining Boeing 777s are due to be inducted into Qatar Airways’ fleet from this summer.
Starting November 10, Qatar Airways will introduce the Long Range (LR) version of the Boeing 777 on the Doha – Houston route, the carrier’s third US destination, with a flight time of under 17 hours non-stop.
Currently, Qatar Airways has a fleet of 62 Airbus and Boeing aircraft connecting some 82 destinations across Europe, Middle East, Africa, the subcontinent, Far East and North America.
