Mangaluru: Kasargod-Byndoor train cancelled citing passenger shortage

Mangaluru, May 13: Train No. 56665/66 that was running between Kasargod and Byndoor for the convenience of passengers visiting centre of pilgrimage, Kollur, stands temporarily cancelled with effect from Friday May 12.

The railway department says that this train has not been patronized by the people of Kasargod and other districts in north Kerala for whose benefit it was originally meant. At the same time, the temporary cancellation will help in undertaking maintenance works, it clarified.

The train used to begin its journey from Kasargod in the morning and return from Byndoor in the afternoon. After observing that the passenger support for the train was not up to the mark, the department had extended the train till Kannur a year back with the hope of improved occupancy. Even after this measure, the train continued to suffer from shortage of passengers. It is being analyzed that running the train through the Junction station here has contributed to the problem and that the train would have got additional passengers if it had touched the central station here.

In addition to this, six trains running in Kerala and Tamil Nadu including the special train between Kannur and Kasargod have been cancelled because of poor passenger response, a release from southern railway confirmed.

    Last month i travelled in this train took me three and half hours from mlore to kundapur. Who will travel in a such slow train? Madgaon Express which left after that reached early. so what is the point of travelling in this train? good that it is canceled.

    Very Bad News..Please extend Byndoor to Calicutt then obviously passenger will come and please prepare new Railway track in byndoor to change engine, that time diesel cost also save.

    This train was introduced by DVS to appease the Mallus traveling to Kollur. What was the need for this train when there are 100 buses (direct and indirect) plying between Mangaluru – Kasaragod and Kollur. Instead this train should have run from Madgaon to Mysore via Mangaluru which could have benefited foreign tourists visiting Goa to visit Mysore.

    I will really miss Kasargod-Byndoor passenger. I have traveled 4 times in the last 2 years in this train and I got such great travel experiences! The train is very punctual, tickets are very cheap and best part of the journey is the privacy that you get - a whole compartment all to yourself. No one had ever occupied any of the 108 seats throughout the trip!! There were simply too less passengers to provide the service.

    It was an unproductive route to start with! Kerala is blessed with too many trains while there is acute shortage of trains in Karnataka. Poor connectivity, single track is bane for Karnataka railway network! Our MP's have no desire to provide better train connectivity to Karnataka or Mangalore / Udupi! As Mr. Tauro suggested- Goa-Mangalore Mysore or Bangalore three to four trans a day would be boon to Karnataka passengers! All depending on buses, which is less comfortable more expensive! Existing train connectivity is poor and time consuming!! Who will persuade Railway Minister on our needs??? Nalin or Shoba???? Forget about them they are neither interested and may be not capable!!
