Abu Dhabi - Mar 29: K.C.O.’s (Konkani Cultural Organization) Annual Family Day Out was an event to remember for many. The annual fixture - a Day Out is one of the most entertaining events of the year which is eagerly awaited by the families as well as community members was held at the Creek Park in Dubai on Friday 28 March 2008.
The journey commenced from Abu Dhabi to the picturesque picnic spot at the Dubai Creek Park with around 160 people on board the buses. Of course, being customary a few delayed which created slim hindrance for the rest. It was a family full of tiny tots, who were unquestionably excused. Never mind “there is much more in store for the day” cited a few.
The journey started off with prayer and energetic youngsters with no time to spare carried on the songs that swayed all to Dubai Creek Park.
The President of KCO, Robert Rego, welcomed the gathering and assured a day of fun and entertainment.
10 groups were formed comprising 12 people in each group.
The groups were ‘Star’, ‘Moon’, ‘Sun’, ‘Mercury’, ‘Mars’, Earth’, ‘Venus’, ‘Jupitor’, ‘Neptune’ and ‘Pluto’.
The opening sport was snake Race. The participants were exceedingly attentive performing well followed by “Balloon Garland’, ‘Sponge & Bucket’, ‘Weighing the watermelon’, ‘Longest Chain’, Guessing the number of Chocolates’, and ‘Dodge Ball’.
The champion team of the day was ‘Venus” captained by Peter Almeida and Runner Up team “Mercury” captained by Wilfred Fernandes.
In Dodge Ball game “Earth” team emerged as winners (Captain Ramesh Pinto) and “Sun” team as runners up (Captain Anisha Veigas).
The vote of thanks was given by Robert Rego President KCO.
Seeing that the departure was approaching, the crowd gathered to take leave from the picnic spot to the bus. There starts bonus episode of singing. Original-traditional, humorous-amusing, comical-entertaining, songs irrespective of all knots and time were sung by youngsters including the entire multitude. The journey to Abu Dhabi of ninety minutes yet again was a blink of an eye.
As a gesture and appreciation the participants exclaimed to thank each member of the KCO. It was indeed a memorable day, proclaimed every single participant. The unwavering efforts of the organizing committee were cherished by the success of the picnic.
