Agra: Two-year-old Girl Falls into 180-feet Borewell - Rescue Efforts on
Agra, Mar 26: Just as most people across the country were about to forget the episode of young Prince having fallen in a borwell, harsh memories returned when a two-year-old girl fell into a borewell in a village near Agra on the Agra-Mumbai highway.
Latest reports coming from the site of the accident in a village near the City of Taj- Agra, state that the 2 year old girl Vandana has fallen into 180-feet-deep borewell. She is at present stuck up at the 47-feet-level of the borewell, for the past 18 hours ! (she fell down into the borewell around 5.30 pm IST on Tuesday March 25).
From early morning oxygen is being delivered to the child through a pipe that is reaching her.
She has been repeatedly crying and only her shrieks can be heard as of now. Her father is maintaining communication with her and in between her sobs, she has been asking for food. She has been sent juice, tea , biscuits and some other food items.
Efforts are on to rescue her. The Army has been roped into the efforts. Another parallel borwell has been dug up and the efforts to make a 5-feet tunnel connecting the new borewell to borewell where the girl is trapped have started .The locals and armymen who are trying their best to rescue the child say that they hope they should be able to rescue the child by 3 pm IST.
The District Magistrate, Mukesh Meshram speaking to reporters has informed that ten army men and other members of their team are carefully making a tunnel to reach the trapped girl. He also informed that doctors with an ambulance from the SN Medical College in Agra are present at the site to provide immediate medical evaluation and emergency treatment for the child.
The DIG Mr Kamal Saxena has expressed his grief over the issue and has said hes making sure no stones are left unturned to rescue the girl.
On being asked what action they would take against those people responsible for leaving such borewells uncovered, both the DM and DIG promised to take action against them.
Presently, the army men are very slowly and carefully carving a tunnel to reach the girl. Efforts cannot be hastened as the sand in the area is lose and there is danger of the sand filling up the pit, which could turn into a fatality for Vandana.
People in the locality and all over the country are praying for the well being of the child.
Most people are feeling it is sad that incidents like that of Prince falling into the borwell and now Little Vandana's fall into the borewell are being repeated and few people along with administration are still showing laxity and carelessness.
