Bengaluru, Apr 29 : The JD(U) Mandya unit on Friday April 29, filed a petition with Legislative Assembly Speaker K B Koliwad seeking disqualification of Mandya MLA M H Ambareesh. The reason cited for the disqualification is, Ambareesh, MLA from Congress party, has continuously stayed away from the proceedings of the House.
JD(U) Mandya unit president B S Gowda in his petition states that Ambareesh has not been attending the Assembly proceedings after chief minister Siddaramaiah dropped him from the Cabinet in June 2016.
Gowda submitted his petition to the offices of Koliwad and state Governor Vajubhai Vala.
Gowda said the interests of people of the Mandya constituency, which Ambareesh represents, are not being taken care of due to his absence from the Assembly.
It is gathered that according to rules and procedure of the legislature, the Speaker can declare a seat vacated if a member has remained absent from all its meetings for a period of 60 days without permission.
Koliwad, when contacted, said the petition has not reached his office yet and he will act once he goes through it.
