Media Release

Mangaluru, Apr 12: In line with government of India’s policy on 'ease of doing business' in ports, on arrival e-visa stamping facility has been extended to cruise tourists calling at NMPT. This facility has been made available to cruise passengers for the first time in major ports of India.

The Bureau of Immigration for the first time has issued e-visa to six guests from UK, USA and Australia who have visited Mangaluru on board the vessel M S Seabourn Encore April 8.

To facilitate the above arrangement, New Mangalore Port has made all arrangements like LAN connection, work station, air condition system, CC camera, que-managers, 24-hour power supply and back-up facilities and handed them over to the Bureau of Immigration on March 14. Accordingly, the Bureau of Immigration, Mangaluru, has established the facilities of issue of e-visa to the cruise guests arriving in the cruise vessels scheduled for New Mangalore Port.

Chairman of NMPT has expressed his gratitude to M/s GAC Shipping India Pvt Ltd, the Indian agent representing the vessel M/s Holland America Group, the immigration authorities and other agencies who are associated in making this happen.

NMPT has been witnessing steady growth in cruise traffic during the last few years. During 2016-17, a record number of 28 vessels with 30,246 passengers called at the Port as against 23 vessels with 19,000 passengers in 2015-16.

This is one way to expand our sectof of Toujrism in India by making relaxation on visa requirements applicable for Cruise passengers touching the Port of Mangalore. We have disembarked in almost onehundred ports all over the world on many Cruise Lines but have never encountered any problem with transit visas. The Cruise Lines themselves have rigid security measures in force whereby each passenger on board is already vetted before touching any port, and with such rigid precautions all Cruise passengers are allowed to disembark for few hours while the Cruise touches any port. Whether it is Russia, China, Japan, Australia or Canada, all passengers are allowed to disembark for the duration of traqnsit stay already decided by the Cruise Line and passengers are automatically checked out and checked in witrhout any kind of hastle.

There are certain countries that would like to send their Immigration Officers on board the Cruise Line and all passengeres on board have to go thru their passport checks, and the process is handled so swiftly and smoothly, that no passenger is ever denied any entry into any visiting port, to the best of our knowledge.

Cruise passengers are always keen to disembark at any transitting port so that they can stretch their feet and enjoy some fresh air and short toiurs of the places and get to know the local people and see some of their custooms, costumes and shopping as well. Tourists transitting any port bring revenue to the visitig port and this can be a great benefit to the local port.

We are glad that Mangalore has realized the potentials of providing transit visas for cruise passengers. Thank you, Mangalore Port, we shall be there ourselves some times in the not too distant future.
