Mangaluru: Wilfy Rebimbus’ ‘Thisri Cheet’ drama on April 23, Muhurat held

Mangaluru, Mar 10: The Muhurat of ‘Thisri Cheet’, a popular Konkani play written by Wilfy Rebimbus, was held on Monday March 6, here.

The play will be presented by Konkani Natak Sabha (KNS) on April 23 at Don Bosco Hall at 6.00 pm in memory of Konkani legend Wilfy Rebimbus on his 75th birth anniversary year.

 

Episcopal Vicar for Religious and Director of Rishivana, Fr Pius James D’Souza and famous Master of Ceremony Manu Bantwal were the chief guests at the Muhurat programme. The dignitaries lit the lamp and sought divine intervention for the success of the play.

Fr Pius James D’Souza handed over the script to the director Adolphus Cutinha, popularly known as Dolla.

Dolla narrated the theme of the play and distributed the roles to the artists.

Fr Pius James D’Souza rendered prayer service and wished success to all the artists.

KNS vice-president Sunil Menezes, general secretary Judi D’Souza, treasurer Jerry Concessao, Meena Rebimbus among others were also present.

KNS president Fr Paul Melwyn D’Souza welcomed the gathering. Judi D’Souza proposed the vote of thanks.

    It is so nice to read that Wilfy Rebimbos's 75th Birthday is celebrated with a reperformance of his Drama "Thisry Cheet". What a nice way to celebrate the legacy of a stalwart who has given so much towards the Konkany culture thru his musical talents. We are also glad that the Capachin priests are also taking active part in these celebrations. Capuchins have given a great deal towards the Konkany Natak Sabnha. We still remember the inauguration of Konkany Natak Sabha by the able leadership of late Fr. Philip Neri along with late Rev.Fr. George Albuquerque SJ., under the leadership of late Bishop Victor Fernandes. Late Simon Rasquinha, John Rasquinha, M. P. D'Sa, Victor D'Souza, Louie Netto and his father, have given a great deal of their talents and professionalism towards the Konkany society thru Konkany Natak Sabha. Late Felix Albuquerque and his entire family have also contributed a great deal towards our Community in Mangalore. Almost every Sunday there was something happening at the Don Bosco Hall and the only media available then was the weekly publication of Rakno Konkany Newspaper; Other than we had microphone announcement in a convertible old British car that announced the events every Sunday morning after the 8 am mass outrside every church. There were hardly any busses from Jeppoo to Don Bosco Hall hence walking on foot back and fprth from Jeppoo to Don Bosco was the best way to quench our thirst of visiting a Konkany concert.

    Those were still the happiest days of life. We have witnessed a Passion Play seven decades ago in Mangalore that was so professionally displayed at the Don Bosco Hall. Stalwarts such as late Wilfy Rebimbos have boosted the Konkany talents to a much higher pedestal after all that late Fr. Philip Neri had envisioned for Mangalore. Let the Konkany culture and talent continue to prevail as a dedication towards the legacy of Wilfy Rebimbos and many others in Mangalore.
