Mangaluru, Mar 10: An undertrial prisoner kept in the district prison here has succeeded in escaping from the prison.
The identity of the person who succeeded in his jailbreak attempt has been given as Jinnappa Parava (37), son of Chennappa, resident of Bolkal House in Gardady village, Beltangady taluk.
Parava was facing a number of cases. He escaped from the jail in the early hours of Friday March 10. It is said that Parava went away at around 3.30 am on Friday. He was facing, among others, a case under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act filed in Uppinangady police station in 2015. This case had later been transferred to Beltangady station. Parava was here as an undertrial prisoner since 2015. It is gathered that he also faces several other cases including theft.
Jinnappa Parava somehow successfully jumped the prison by escaping the watchful eyes of the security personnel, although the security at this prison had been beefed up after incidents of smuggling of cellphones, ganja etc besides fight between prisoners. A case about his disappearance has been filed in Barke police station here. Although he had been trying to get bail, the courts had turned down Jinnappa Parava's pleas so far, it is gathered.
