Udupi, Feb 26: Members of Hindu outfits protested at Padubidri police station and also on road on Sunday February 26, demanding the arrest of culprits who assaulted a truck driver.
Hasan based truck driver was assaulted on Saturday, February 25 by some identified youth.
People had protested at the police station on Saturday, but withdrew after assistant police superintendent Vishnuvardhan promised them that culprits would be arrested by 12.00 pm on Sunday. When no one was arrested till then, Hindu outfits started protesting.

As per unconfirmed report, one was arrested in Kaup.
Members of Hindu outfits numbering around 300 also tried to stop the vehicles on the road.

Udupi, Feb 26: After a truck driver was attacked and thrashed by a few youngsters for allegedly not allowing enough space for their vehicles to overtake, hundreds of youngsters gathered together and mobbed Padubidri police station on Saturday, February 25 night. The young men demanded the arrest of the attackers.
A Hassan-based youth, identified as Bhaskar, was driving the truck loaded with food items involved with line sales. The truck was intercepted near a prayer centre at Mudarangady near here by people travelling in another vehicle. The five men who got down from the vehicle, accused the driver of not allowing their vehicle to overtake the truck, before raining expletives on him and beating him up. In this incident, Bhaskar sustained injuries to his head. He stands admitted into the hospital. Shankar, who was with Bhaskar, also sustained injuries.
On this occasion, another group of youngsters objected to this behaviour, it is said. Although an effort to end the dispute through mediation by local gram panchayat president, David, was made, hundreds of youth gathered after the news of the attack spread far and wide. The youngsters laid siege to Padubidri police station and demanded the arrest of the culprits.
As the police did not meet this demand till night, the protest continued late into the night. On this occasion, Kaup police circle inspector, Halamurthy Rao and the protestors exchanged heated words. The youth numbering about 150, were led by Hindu Jagran Vedike. The group, at one stage, objected to capturing of the proceedings by media persons.
