Puttur, Feb 22: After workers of Hindu organizations objected to three girls staying in the house of a cleric from another community at Gokul Nagar in Koila village near Kadaba, youngsters belonging to two communities came to blows on the evening of Tuesday February 21. The situation threatened to out of control, after which Kadaba police went to the spot and managed the situation.
The police personnel led the three girls to the police station, questioned them, and contacted their parents.
Three girls, said to classmates of the daughter of a cleric, who happens to be a native of Mardhala and currently residing at Gokul Nagar in Koila, were staying in his house since the last two days. Cleric's daughter happens to be a medical student at Mysuru. When she came home on Saturday, she had brought with her three girls from her college, who hail from other states. It is said that the girls, who had also come to Koila and stayed with their friend for four days in the past, were to return on Wednesday.
As soon as activists of some Hindu organizations learnt about the fact that these girls were staying with cleric's family, they came together opposite the girl's home. When this fact came to the knowledge of youth from the other religion, they too came there. A policeman from Kadaba who was on patrol duty at the time came to know about this development. He visited the house in question and managed the situation. Thereafter, Kadaba in-charge sub-inspector, Anand Poojary and other personnel visited the spot and escorted the girls to police station. During this period, there was a heated exchange of words between police personnel and the crowd.
Even after the police left with the girls, people continued to amass at the spot from various villages. There was presence of large number of people belonging to both the religions. The situation went out of control, following which the young people fought with one another. At this juncture, police personnel from Kadaba and Uppinangady rushed to the spot and controlled the situation.
A person named Naveen was injured in the fight. Deputy superintendent of police, Bhaskar Rai, police circle inspector, Mahesh Prasad, and other officials visited the spot and supervised the arrangements.
