Beltangady, Sep 1: As per information gathered, a dalit girl from Kaudody in Ajjibettu village near Punjalkatte in the taluk was raped by two men known to her.
The names of the rape-accused have been given as Sanjeev and Sanjith. They knew the girl well. When going in an auto rickshaw on Tuesday August 30 evening, they saw the 17-year-old girl, picked her up, took her to a deserted spot on a hillock and raped her, policemen said.
It is said that the girl was walking towards her home when she was picked by the two accused. They took her to Bajire near Venoor. It is being claimed that after raping her, she was dropped off at night near her home. When parents confronted her for returning home so late, she narrated to them the harrowing experience.
After the parents filed complaint in Punjalkatte police station on Wednesday August 31, the policemen registered a case under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. Police sub-inspector of the station, Rama Nayak, arrested both the accused and subjected them to questioning. Additional superintendent of police, Vedamurthy, deputy superintendent of police, Raveesh, and circle inspector, Srinivas, went to the spot, conducted inspection, and guided investigation.
