Mangaluru, Aug 27: Thieves entered a house at Deralakatte in Konaje police station limits late night on Friday August 26 and decamped with Rs 2.75 lacs from the house.
The theft occurred at the house of Khaleel Chicken stall owner Abdul Kareem near Natekal.
Thieves removed the latch of their back door through the window, entered the house and ransacked all the rooms in the house.
They later went to the room where Abdul Kareem’s mother was sleeping and removed the key of the cupboard from under her pillow. They opened the drawer kept upstairs with the key and stole Rs 2.75 lacs cash from it.
The money was kept by Abdul Kareem to pay to those who brought chicken during Mosaru Kudike festival. As those people did not come for two days he had kept the cash at home.
Thieves fled when the mobile rang.
Abdul Kareem, his mother, wife and two children were at home. While his wife and children had slept in one room, his mother and Kareem had slept in separate rooms. When the thieves opened the drawer, the child started crying. So Kareem and his wife also woke up and got scared when they heard noise outside. The wife soon telephoned to her husband in another room. When the phone rang, the thieves fled with the cash through the front door.
Konaje station police have registered a case. Forensic experts and dog squad visited the place and conducted initial investigation.
