Konkani Academy to celebrate Manyata Divas silver jubilee at SVT

Karkala, Aug 19: Konkani Manyata Divas - 2016, which coincides with silver jubilee of Konkani getting recognition of scheduled language, is being celebrated at SVT educational institutions here on Saturday August 20. This was stated by organizing committee president, Roy Castelino, at a press conference held on Thursday August 18.

"India is abode to thousands of language and a large number of cultures. But only 22 languages have been recognized as scheduled languages, by adding them to the eighth schedule of Indian Constitution. Konkani had got this status on August 20, 1992," he recollected.

"A procession will be flagged off by municipal president, Anita Anchan, at 3 pm from near Ananthashayana temple. Folk dances, tableaux, band sets etc will add to the grandeur of the programme. The meeting programme being held at 5 pm on Saturday at SVT educational institutions will be inaugurated by district in-charge minister, Pramod Madhwaraj. MLA and chief whip of the opposition in state assembly, V Sunil Kumar, MPs, Shobha Karandlaje and Oscar Fernandes, former MLA, Gopal Bhandary, additional deputy commissioner, Anuradha Shet, priest, Josvi Fernandes, Venkataramana temple trustee, Jayaram Prabhu, Women's Organizations president, Prescilla D'Souza, entrepreneurs, Aveline Louis and Bola Prabhakar Kamath, and many other leaders and dignitaries will be present. Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Acadey president, Roy Castelino, will preside," he said.

He also informed that four books would be released at the function and achievers in various fields would be felicitated.

Registrar of the academy, Dr B Devadas Pai, Subhas Kamath of organizing committee, B Pundalik Marathe, Joachim Michael Pinto, and a number of others were present.
