Puttur, Aug 13: "St Philomena higher primary school, which has been named after St Philomena, who perpetually intercedes with the Almighty for the general well-being of the populace, has been imparting value-based education and is continuously marching forward on the path of progress. It is very important to keep remembering the Mother," said vicar general of Mangalore diocese, Msgr Moras Prabhu.
He was delivering message at a progrmme held at annual feast of school's patron saint, St Philomena, at St Philomena higher primary school Uppinangadi after celebrating Holy Eucharist at Uppinangady church on Thursday August 12.
"The school is wearing festive look today. This festival is of the children. Let this school achieve further progress with the support and good wishes of noble parents of children," he wished.
Vice president of the church parish council, Robert D'Souza, noted that St Philomena was a martyr who worked for truth, righteousness, and justice. He informed that Philomena in Latin language means light. Therefore he hoped that this school will become a leading light to students and the people.
Head teacher of the school, Philomena Pais, gave an insight into the life and achievements of St Philomena. Thereafter, cultural programmes were presented by students of nursery, primary, St Mary's primary and high school, apart from students of St Philomena primary school. On this occasion, donors were identified and felicitated.
Priest of Uppinangadi church and convener of St Philomena and St Mary's group of educational institutions, Fr Ronald Pinto, Bannur church priest, Fr Nicholas, Fr Moris Dias, vice president of school teachers and parents association, Deekaiah, head teacher, Pavitra Carlo, Gracy Miranda and others were present.
Head teacher of the school, Maria Janet D'Souza, welcomed. Gracy Miranda proposed vote of thanks. Teacher, Herald D'Souza, and student, Sharadhi, presented the programme.
