Beltangady, Aug 12: “Contacts are very much essential for a journalist. If you have enough contacts then the news will come in search you, no need of running behind it,” said Deccan Herald Mangaluru Bureau chief Ronald Anil Fernandes.
He was addressing the journalism students of SDM PG College on Thursday. Speaking on the occasion he said that being sincere and hard working is much necessary in journalism sector.
“To be a successful journalist, first you should become a good reader. Read newspapers daily. There are examples of clearing public service examinations by reading newspaper only. Regular reading and referring some of the special columns will help you in one or other way in future,” he said.
Speaking about the specialities of Deccan Herald (DH) he said, “DH is the only news paper which gives you more than ten supplements. It has got much number of stringers in all the taluks and even in remote areas also. DH covers almost all news. Editorials will be totally unbiased and informative. The Delhi bureau of DH is inaugurated to mark the 200th anniversary of proclaiming Delhi as the capital of India.”

SDM Journalism department HOD Bhaskar Hegde said that DH and Prajavani have played and are playing their own unique role in society. It has upheld the concept of social concern.
