Dubai, Nov 4: UAE's well-known community organisation residing in Dubai since the past 19 years has donated Rs 25 lacs to a charity organisation CODP in Mangalore for the education of poor and for a medical fund. The cheque was presented to the director of CODP Mangalore Fr Onil D'Souza in a program organized here in the Indian club on November 3, 2007.
Venu Rajamony, Consular General of India to Dubai was the guest of honor. Fr Freddy D'Souza of St Mary's Church Dubai was also present.
James Mendonca, president of Mangalore Konkans welcomed the gathering. The program started with an invocation 'This little Guding Light of Mine' sung by Mangalore Konkans team members.
'The journey in the service' speech was presented by Valerian Peris, the two-time president of Mangalore Konkans. He spoke on the success saga of Mangalore Konkans and the achievements of the community since the past 19 years, with the support from sponsors.
Jocelyne Mascarenhas, senior member of Mangalore Konkans talked about the mutually beneficial association between the two major organizations namely Mangalore Konkans and CODP Mangalore.
On the occasion an audio - visual 'The path trod by Mangalore Konkans' was presented to the audience. Consul General Venu Rajamony, Fr Freddy D'Souza, and Fr Onil D'souza also spoke at the event and appreciated the good deeds done by the Mangalore Konkans.
Joyce Menezes the vice - president of Mangalore Konkans proposed the vote of thanks, Errol Goveas compered the event. The event was also attended by large number of sponsors, well-wishers and members of Mangalore Konkans Dubai.
