New Delhi, May 2 (IANS): Swara Bhaskar-starrer “Nil Battey Sannata”, which narrates a story of a single-mother working as a domestic help to ensure that her daughter receives good education, is having a good run at the box office.
The film, which released on April 22, has received wide acclaim from critics and audiences alike. Despite the fact that it was shown in less than 300 screens across the country, the film is being termed as a hit and the response is picking up in rural pockets.
Directed by Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari, the film has steadily improved on its daily box office collection and the first week collection, according to trade sources, has been around Rs.3 crore, read a statement.
Replete with life's lessons, "Nil Battey Sannata" is a powerfully packed, emotional tale of dreams and ambition, which is beautifully captured through a mother-daughter relationship.
Swara plays role of a maid and is an ambitious mother. She works hard to ensure that her daughter Apeksha, which means expectation and is fondly called Appu, receives a good education.
It also stars Riya Shukla, Aditi Tailang, Ratna Pathak Shah, Pankaj Tripathi and Sanjay Suri.
The box office response has delighted the makers of the film.
The film was declared tax-free in n Uttar Pradesh and in Delhi. Well known TV anchor Ravish Kumar also wrote an open letter cum review to the chief ministers of Hindi speaking states to encourage them to send all school children and teachers to see "Nil Battey Sannata".
