Modi govt may meet same fate as that of Indira's: Yashwant

Dona Paula (Goa), Jan 30 (PTI): Veteran BJP leader Yashwant Sinha today tore into Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his government, saying there is no dialogue and they may meet the same fate as the Indira Gandhi-led Congress which was drubbed in the elections after Emergency.

Sinha, who along with some other BJP veterans has been marginalised in the party, was speaking at a panel discussion at the 'Difficult Dialogues' conference here, where CPI-M general secretary Sitaram Yechury also spoke.

"There is absolutely no scope of no dialogue... This is the great strength of Indian democracy. There will be aberrations here and there, there might be concerns about the present situation. But the great Indian society will take care of it and consign to dust those who do not believe in dialogue in India," Sinha said.

"The people of India will consign him to the dust, you just have to wait for the next elections," Sinha, who was finance minister in Atal Bihari Vajpayee government, said without naming Modi.

Alluding to the general elections in 1977 when Congress was ousted from power, he said such a neglect (of dialogue) will make the government last "19 months", the same duration as the Emergency.

We all know how the people of India reacted to the Emergency which was the "most concerted democratic effort in our country to still the voice of dissent", he said.

Replying to intervention from Yechury on need to ensure that dialogue in the society doesn't get stifled, he said, "I would only say that the stifler is in for serious trouble."

The veteran BJP leader also rued the fact that Opposition was not letting Parliament function. Without naming, he took a potshot at a Congress leader, who he said never raised concerns on the GST Bill in the standing committee meetings but later raised objections.

Under Vajpayee, the NDA government was able to pass several important legislations with the help of dialogue (with opposition), Sinha said.

His onslaught comes on the same day when another BJP leader, actor-MP Shatrughan Sinha, said that veteran leaders Vajpayee, L K Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi "deserve much more than what they have been given".

"Currently these leaders including me are trapped between oppression and respect," Shatrughan said in Pune.

Not surprised to hear Mr Yashwanth Sinha's remarks to MODI. Most of the elders of BJP have been facing a severe humiliation by the progress INDIA is moving forward. Ifeel Elderly people should give advice and guidance to Modi in case he is moving out of the right path... Simply uttering negative views shows their total bankrupt of idealogy of BJP and Our Nation. In this hardship of fighting terrorism, securing Borders, welfare of the people, agriculture, production, etc.. only MODI is the right person to lead our NATION now..

Indira ruled India because of many reasons
India was very poor and most of the poor relied on Pettha Kanji mark as 80% of our population then relied purely on agriculture and kadakk faced lady, Indira....!
and again Gandhi name took them to the pinnacle point of politics of India....
Modi fits in to a different level in Indian politics as he gives importance to the businesses, what is famous for and he picked up the strides where congress neglected for decades....!

geoffrey, yes consumer not benifited as per the price ..but RELIANCE OR ESSAR are not only the companies in INDIA..there are more Govt owned oil companies(ONGC,MRPL,HPCL,BPCL so on), than private companies..During UPA rule,Govt oil companies are incurring heavy loss due to subsidy on Diesel, Gas..central Govt bailing out or paying back them on losses from exchequer, in short from our tax money..give from one hand take from one hand, then what is the net effect?..if there is no corruption,MODI gives good administration & directs subsidies to only the needy then why anybody should have complaint..UPA, only looks like worked for poor but every one looted..not a single UPA minister clean, running court after court..People should trust a leader & Govt, then they will ready to do little sacrifice..people trust MODI,its proved by the fact that nearly 20 lacs people surrendered their gas subsidy on his call..

What fate it will meet is for the electorate to decide for people get the government they deserve.

Going by comments most of them say Modi's days are numbered. Let them no problem then Congress can come back to power and their Bhakths have filed day. But why cribble now. Because you know what u saying is not true. And for Yashwant Sinha he must be brooding due to old age and for not getting a chance to be minister. Sour grapes. He has given Congress Bhakts to cheer something. Relish it

BJP and RSS both are in self-distrtruction mode, Modi is mere spectator. But the stakes are very very high for Modi, as history gets written in the name of a leader. For a leader there is no scope for error in judgement and even a minutest error could be a disastor. To prove my point - Dr. MMS was extremely capable leader, however, his poor communication wth masses made him extreemly unpopular.

Modi has goffed up in every step and stage. He believes his call centres are going to save him apart from his own oratory skills.
They are handy, they can cover but they can not hide the fire from long. Even a weak communicator like Rahul Gandhi finds space and place in media, it speaks about Modi's inability and failure. If Modi wants to retain his leadership, he has to kick RSS from corridors of powers.

I agree with Yaswant Sinha. Just look at the news today!. Petrol and Diesel excise duty increased for the 7th time!. Looks Modi government is determined not to pass any benefits of international crude price fall to Indian consumers!. One thing is that government is not reducing prices in line with international prices and over that its increasing excise duty repeatedly!. Just helping Ambani and Adani to make windfall profits!. And we have to remember that this is all from a party that gave a BHARAT BANDH call against raising of LPG and petrol prices by UPA government when international crude prices were highest in history!. People are not dumb Modiji but they are watching everything! not like few bakhts!

geofrey, do you have any idea whats global oil price & china turmoil..its not like UPA era where rupee tumbled more often due to domestic issues..rupee may fall further as there is no sign of oil price picking up..but dont worry, only rich people/corporates get hurt..common people happy oil prices down, inflation goes down..Gulf expartriates getting good exchange rate, same time less inflation back home..you should be happy no corruption at central level, good givernance..its proved from the fact that MODI targetted for state law & order situation, fake intolerance, lies such as ROHIT is DALIT..infact already central ministers issued statement he is not DALIT..

Contrary to what yo claim, in India's context the in oil prices hasn't been passed on to consumer Ramesh. it has only made oil - rich Ambani and Ruia richer. For the last 3 months they have earned 11.4$ on every barrel of oil they have processed which is 60% more than last year. Forget the gulf expatriates (needless to say many gulfies have been repatriated due to cost optimization already), just think of our economy where our imports outweigh exports by a big margin. In simple words, either our oil product prices should've dropped in proportion with crude oil prices or Rupee should have remained stronger, but unfortunately both things are not happening, it's only the rich get richer, it's a clear case of gross mismanagement and that's where we miss MMS who managed Rupee at 57.8 a dollar when he passed the baton to current leadership.

Once elected and entrusted with responsibility and accountability, educated electorate don’t fall for superlatives like Best, Excellent etc.. which sounds as funny as someone’s comment yesterday ‘World leaders are queuing up for Modi’s advice’. People on the other hand look for superlatives being supported by hard evidence which is lacking now. And people don’t buy the lame excuse of 60y rule for current leadership failure anymore!

We can clearly imagine & guess that all is not well within BJP.., Namo & his coterie team is fast loosing its grip within BJP (courtesy - MP/Guj/Bihar/Delhi drubbings to bite the dust). RSS's proxy lust for political power to maneuver & promote hate politics(though I may be wrong, but quite often the body/face language/expression & response by RSS ideologues quite often prompting me to think so) is probably going to cost BJP a chance to govern Hindustan longer than it anticipate.

All top govt's administrative machinery (be it CBI/ED/I&B/Corp affairs/Home affairs/Governors of state etc.,) is extensively is used to suffocate & silence both opposition & even the allies is somewhat apparent.

Above all the Vemula issue will certainly going to hit the nail in the coffin.

In a vibrant democracy every proud & patriotic citizen's take right decisions through their electoral franchise once in every 5 years, if not later.
